Today’s craft is sponsored by Bounty, however all opinions are mine.
Since I am a little bit of a helicopter mom, it is often hard for me to let my daughter Joy do art projects on her own because I do not like her making a mess of herself or her surroundings. Matt says, “I am hindering her creativity and need to lighten up!” But, it’s so hard when you have a Type-A personality like I do. However, today I stepped out of my comfort zone and with a little help from Bounty, let her make a Despicable Me 3 Minions Craft which Matt created to celebrate the movie release.
In celebration of Despicable Me 3 now being in theaters, my family and I attended a special screening and breakfast before the film was released in theaters on June 30. When I told Joy we were making our own Hula Minion and Jailbreak Minion, she leaped with excitement. As I watched her paint the paper rolls yellow to make each Minion body my first reaction was to grab the paintbrush. However, I fought my impulses and watched her enjoy the moment because I knew I had everything covered. We had a shirt, disposable wet cloths and used the new Bounty with Despicable Me 3 prints paper towels.
Once Joy realized I was absolutely letting her paint on her own, she relished in the moment and decorated her hands, added a little paint on her face, and managed to paint the Minion body too. The experience made me realize it is ok to let her get as messy as she wants if I have Bounty on standby.
If you’re planning on making our Despicable Me 3 Minions Craft with your child, or as a party activity, I took some actions using paper towels to make sure the encounter was enjoyable for both of us that I think would be great for you to use.
1) I limited spills by using Bounty with Despicable Me 3 prints as an art mat.
Joy could paint her little heart out and I didn’t have to worry about her ruining my tablecloth because Bounty sheets are extra absorbent and long lasting. Plus, if you are planning a Minion or Despicable Me 3 party, the new Despicable Me 3 prints paper towels and quilted napkins will match the theme perfectly and makes clean-up quick and fun!
2) I really do not like Joy getting her clothes dirty, and I usually use aprons.
I tore a sheet off from the paper towel roll, tucked it into the top of the shirt and we were good to go. She could make a mess, and without staining her clothing.
She did spill a little paint on the table, but that was ok because I was able to pick up the mess quickly.
3) Before we moved onto gluing the parts of the Minions to the paper roll Joy was such mess.
I took a wet Bounty paper towel to let Joy clean her hands and face. As always, the sheets were soft enough to gently clean her face, yet so durable it did not tear apart. After she completed painting her Minions, we were off to build a Hula Minion and Jail Break Minion.
Here are the steps to make our Despicable Me 3 Minions craft – Hula Minion and Jail Break Minion.

Step 1: Paint the paper roll yellow using the foam paint brush and let dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Then brush on a second coat and let dry for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
**If you are doing our Despicable Me 3 Minions craft at home we suggest you use a kid friendly Washable Paint. However, if you are planning on using this project as Despicable Me 3 party activity, I recommend you painting all the paper rolls with two coats of water based Acrylic paint.
Step 2: As you wait for the paper roll to dry printout and cut the provided Hula Minion and Jail Break Minion template.
Step 3: After all the piece is cut out begin building your Minions by gluing the pieces onto the paper roll working from bottom to top. See the example included with the template to see where each part goes.
Step 4: Next, glue on the googly eyes in the middle of the goggle area.
Step 5: Once you glued on everything but the little Minions hands. Use the scissors to poke a hole through both sides. Next cut the yellow pipe cleaner and push it through both holes leaving extra out on both ends for the arms. Finally, glue the hands to the ends of the yellow pipe cleaner.
