3 Lessons We Learned From ‘Finding Dory’

Let’s face it, we all have a love-hate relationship with movie sequels. While there is excitement that we’ll get to see our favorite characters on the big screen again, there is a worry that the next episode won’t be nearly as great of an experience as the last. I am pleased to tell you that ‘Finding Dory’ is just as good as ‘Finding Nemo.’ ‘Finding Dory’ achieved greatness because it followed at least one of cinemas’ golden rules-if there is going to be a sequel to a movie, there must be a demand for it ( which there definitely was ) and/or there are questions that have been left unanswered. Looking back on ‘Finding Nemo,’ I have always wondered why Dory is the way she is without thinking there may be something “wrong” with her. It was intriguing to see Dory’s friends get slightly frustrated with her but stick around because of their love for her, and I’m sure we’ve all had that kind of friendship.

The movie is an emotional rollercoaster; it’s loaded with laughs, tells a great story, and I couldn’t help but notice those around me start to tear up. Let’s Dive Into It!

Here are 3 Lessons We Learned From ‘Finding Dory’

Nobody Is Perfect And That’s Okay: Whether one fin is larger than the other, or you’re very forgetful, you are perfectly fine just the way you are. Throughout the film, everyone’s care for Dory is expressed magnificently throughout her journey despite her short-term memory, which has proven to be slightly annoying to them at times. Most importantly, I think it’s great to show people that it’s alright if you’re different or imperfect; real friends will be there to support you through thick and thin.

Never Lose Hope: Without trying to spoil anything, it turns out that Dory has spent a very long time away from her parents, and I mean a very long time. Suddenly, Dory remembers that she came from somewhere and then seeks to find where exactly she’s from. To be honest, throughout Dory’s journey, there are a few points where I thought Dory would definitely give up, and she never did. So no matter how terrible the situation may be, it isn’t over until the clock strikes zero, now that’s a lesson that definitely appeals to me.

Just Keep Swimming: The familiar phrase “just keep swimming” was fun before. However, those three words take on a more significant meaning in ‘Finding Dory.’ Sometimes life gives you multiple paths, and it’s up to you to pick which one to follow. I want you to imagine how painfully difficult that had to be for Dory to follow. It’s no wonder she adopted the concept “just keep swimming.” This lesson may go hand in hand with the previous one, but I don’t think they’re the same. Let me tell you why. Throughout our journeys, we must not only maintain hope but also maintain the drive to finish whatever trials are thrown our way. It’s one thing to have hope, but to execute your goal with determination is just as important.

I would highly recommend ‘Finding Dory’ to anyone. There was never a moment where I grew bored or tired; the movie introduced some excellent new characters, and I’m almost certain that Hank the Septapus is this year’s Bing Bong. Anyhow, this film practically guarantees a fun night out with your family or loved ones. There are a lot of great lessons that Disney touches base on, and I think many of us will be able to relate to the story very well. Just a heads up, no scuba gear or snorkels will be necessary.
