Top Ways to Spend a Weekend with Kids

Weekends with kids have a funny way of feeling both short and totally chaotic and long and boring. It all depends on the activities that you put forward to them for approval. One minute it’s Saturday morning pancakes and the next, someone’s asking whether they need to eat their greens on a Sunday night. The secret to a great family weekend is an activity to do that you can all build around. It keeps everyone entertained without turning parents into exhausted event coordinators.

One fun option? Visiting places like At The Pier Arcade, where kids can dive into games, collect tickets and burn off endless amounts of energy while adults enjoy a little nostalgia! Family-friendly attractions with plenty to do help to create those easy, laughter-filled moments everyone remembers long after the weekend ends. Remember, all of this creates memories for the kids!

Another great way to spend time together is planning an outdoor adventure. It doesn’t have to involve a complex road trip that exhausts everyone or expensive gear, either. A visit to a local park with a picnic, a nature trail with ice cream at the end of a beach adventure, turns an ordinary day into a mini adventure. Kids love to explore, collect interesting shells and rocks and spot birds. Bonus points are always given if there are snacks involved – somehow, snacks on the trail always taste better!

Movie nights are also classic for a reason. Pick a family favourite and grab the popcorn and blankets. You can let everyone pile into the living room for a cosy evening without the actual cost of going to the movies (or the traffic!). You can even make homemade tickets for an authentic experience. Children rarely care about perfection – they just want to have fun with you.

If your kids love to get creative, weekend craft sessions can be entertaining. Not just for them, but for you. You remember the days of peeling PVA glue from your hands, right? Teach them the ways and let them get messy! Painting, building forts, baking cookies – it’s a way to get messy and have fun. Sometimes, the messiest activities are the ones that bring the most joy. Experience suggests glitter has no respect for boundaries.

Families can even turn weekend chores into fun. A trip to the farmers market to buy fruit, the bookstore or even an ice cream shop is exciting to kids when they’re included in the experience. Children love to feel involved, and if there are treats, they’re going to be snuffling at your elbows like mini truffle piglets! Don’t forget that quiet moments matter, too. Not every weekend needs to be action packed – slowing down and just resting is also productive.

The best weekends are rarely the fanciest ones, just the ones where you all get to be present with one another and enjoy each other’s company. Life is busy and if you want your kids happy, give them you – that’s what they want the most.
