With Father’s Day just around the corner, I’ve been missing my Dad. Unfortunately I lost him June 17,2011 due to congestive heart failure. This time of year, I tend to take several breaks during my work day to sit back and think about some of my fondest times with my him. One of my favorite memories was Memorial Day 1991. I had just started driving and this was the first time he was going to let me drive with my friends in the car.

That morning I was so excited about being able to drive myself to our community fair. I remember waking up to the smell of my Dad barbecue going through our home and hearing him rack up leaves as he listen to his favorite radio station.  After taking in my surrounding, I jumped out of bed and race to the back yard to remind him of my big day. As I approached the back door, I heard my Dad laugh and say” Someone up bright an early. . . grab your breakfast on the table and get ready. I don’t wanted you speeding to get to your friends.”
I told him “Thanks Dad for breakfast” and started getting ready for the day. Before I left, my Dad greeted me with a kiss and a hug. However, as I was walking out the door. The Song Good Time by Chic Came on and He started to dance with me.

Here’s the Song, Just in case you’ve never heard it before.

Any Who, that dance with my father was captured on video. However, through time the VHS was damage and lost. I often times wished I could have persevered that precious memory. So I could show Joy her grandpa’s great dancing moves.  I have other vidoe’s that I don’t want damaged of her grandfather and I plan on preserving  my outdated tapes and home movie film digitally through  Southtree.

(SECURING PRECIOUS MEMORIES OF DAD) I just read this heart warming story about you and your father Kathy. I am glad that you did get to share that dance to that song with your Father too. I remember dancing to that song way back when in the seventies when my best bud and I went out to the disco techs most of the night. I also lost my Father back in 1995, he passed from prostate cancer two days before Thanksgiving. My Mother had just passed that Labor Day weekend too of heart attack. Their deaths were two and a half months apart. Now here we are just before Christmas of 2018, twenty three years late and I still think of them both almost everyday. Mom was a nurse for Germany during WWII and Dad was an army medic at that time. They married here in the states after the war. I too have some VHS tapes that my brother converted onto DVD’s now for our family. You can never replace those lost memories that’s for sure. I hope you and your family have a blessed and wonderful Christmas holiday, and god bless…….. June S.
