Are you familiar with the phrase “Have Mustard Seed Faith”? If you go to church, or even watch a service on TV, I am almost positive you have heard a sermon or two on the topic and every pastor has their option of analogy on what it takes to accomplish this small step of faith. Today’s story is a sponsored partnership with CROSS Pens. All opinions expressed are my own.
I believe that to have a full understanding of what it means to “Have Mustard Seed Faith” everyone has to go through their own special journey. Mine started the day I decided to walk away from a successful Sr. Accounts Executive position to start my own business without including my husband in the decision. Matt and I were blessed to work for the same company in different departments. At the time we had everything most people dream of, two nice cars, crazy good income, two beautiful kids and a house, but I just wasn’t happy.
I remember it like yesterday. Matt called me to see if I would like to go to lunch and my response was “Can’t right now, I’m resigning,” following by a dial tone. Although he was very understanding, my decision changed the course of our lives and we experienced several obstacles. However, I would not change a single thing because it showed me what it takes to “Have Mustard Seed Faith.”
This was over 13 years ago, and a lot has happened so I am going to give you my long story short. After quitting my job, Matt and I started a boutique style marketing firm that consisted of clients such as the California Governor, MMA Fighter “Tito” Ortiz and a list of other amazing clients. However, in 2008 when the world changed around us our companies doors closed.
From there I went through a whirled wind season that included being laid-off from my dream job, several financial struggles, and two miscarriages. Somewhere, in my journey, I had a crazy idea to start my first blog but I was terrified, at this point, I had failed at accomplishing the goals I set out to do. But despite my situation, I was encouraged by my father to have faith in God and continue to pursue my dreams. Shortly after, I conceived the little girl I prayed 19 years for however my pregnancy with her was extremely hard, and I had to have faith in God he would bless me with a healthy child.
God begin to opens doors beyond my family and my imagination that took faith for me to walk through. Although the Journey was long and some days I am weary, it was my FAITH that was as small as a mustard seed that got me through the day.
That is why it is important to me to instill this belief in my sons. I know that life may give them both curve balls, but as long as they have faith in God, all their crooked roads will eventually become straight.
