The Marvel Cinematic Universe has quickly become a force to be reckoned with. With each new addition, fans of all ages line up to experience the latest release. When it comes to superhero movies, they have not only set the tone; they have set and met high expectations. The newest film to hit theaters, and the third in the CAPTAIN AMERICA franchise, is ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.’ Due to genius marketing, Marvel has had fans choosing sides, Team Iron Man or Team Cap, without us even knowing what they are fighting for.
While a superhero film may not be the first place you would look for meaningful life lessons, get ready to be surprised, the newest Marvel cinematic masterpiece is full of wisdom.
Here are the three life lessons from ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.’
ACCOUNTABILITY:
I can’t stress enough how important this life lesson is, especially to children growing up in the digital age. Accountability is one of the major story lines in this film, and I couldn’t be more excited. So many of the Marvel films in the past have shown our favorite superhero’s saving the day, but they have never shown what kind of effect it had on the people in the area. ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR’ tackles that topic head on in a way that makes this film feel extremely grounded. While there may be some intense imagery, it is fleeting and serves an important role. The Avengers have, on more than one occasion, saved the day, but at what cost? This film examines that and shows The Avengers in a new light-one we can all be proud of.
FRIENDSHIP FIRST:
I think it’s pretty safe to say that at one point in our lives, we have all been in a position where we have had to stick up for a friend. While friendship is a large part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that bond is tested here more than it ever has been before. I love when a film makes you ask yourself important questions, and after watching this film, I found myself asking that age-old question: “How far would I go for a friend?” I think this is a valuable lesson, especially for teenagers, because we live in a world where bullying is prevalent and standing up for friends is important. Captain America has known Bucky since childhood and despite their troubled past, Cap is willing to put his life on the line because he believes in him while Vision is willing to do anything to protect Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.
ASK QUESTIONS:
When the government intervenes to reign in The Avengers, questions are asked and sides are taken. Feeling safe to ask questions, especially questioning authority, is such a valuable life lesson. You may be thinking to yourself, wait what? But, here’s the thing-authorities aren’t always right and everyone, especially the little ones, should learn that it is ok to question authority if you are questioning their motives. I loved that ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR’ made this an important part of their story.
With 12 superheroes, exciting action sequences, and valuable life lessons, this may be the most grounded Marvel film to date. Whether you are Team Iron Man or Team Cap, or if you’re like me and switched halfway through the film, this if a film that the whole family can enjoy and learn from. ‘CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR’ opens up in theaters everywhere on Thursday, May 5, 2015.
