5 Fun Facts on Richard Madden Prince Charming Wardrobe #Cinderella

For the first time we get to know Prince Charming’s story, as well. In Disney’s new live – action film Prince Charming is portrayed as a son, prince and man in love through stunning and dashing costume design. When developing his stunning and intricate wardrobe Award-winner Sandy Powell’s took extra measure to amplify his presence.

I had an opportunity to speak with the designer, about Richard Madden (Prince Charming) elegant wardrobe. Great details where involved to create stunning costume. Here’s 5 Fun Facts on Richard Madden Prince Charming Wardrobe: 

Center Stage:

Prince Charming is the only one wearing white at the royal ball. She used light blue on the collar and sleeve of his ball attire. For his green hunting costume, she added bits of blue in the cravat and vests.  She felt the blue compliment Richard Madden gorgeous blue eyes.

Military Attire:

2) Since Prince Charming is a military man he is beautifully fitted in a formfitting uniform. However his uniform is historically inaccurate. Tight white breeches with saggy knees is the common style, but Sandy Powell felt it was more flattering use fitted trousers.

Shades of Blue:

3) Costumes are very masculine however the designer strategically used various shades of blues, greens and whites, rather than going with dark and somber colors.

Detailed Embroidery:

4) All of the detailed embroidery represented throughout his wardrobe was done in Pakistan. Prior to sending the designs over to have the stitching done each piece was drawn and then mark on the fabric.

Commanding Presence:

5) Richard Madden wanted his character to be masculine and not foppish.  In order to achieve the perfect look he expressed his thoughts to designer Sandy Powell. But he was quite surprised when he tried on the white ball outfit for the first time and it was white with sequence glitter white. However once he stepped into the ballroom the costume he felt regal, commanding and it helped with his posture.

Story Synopsis: 

Disney’s new live action film “Cinderella” follows the misfortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose father remarries after the untimely the death of her mother.  In order to support her father’s decision to remarry, Ella welcomes her new Stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family.

When Ella meets a dashing stranger in the woods, unaware that he is really the Prince (Richard Madden), she believes she has finally found a kindred soul. When the King summons all maidens in the kingdom to attend a royal ball at the palace it appears her fortunes may be about to change.  However, her, evil Stepmother forbids her to attend the event.

But, as in all good fairy tales, help is always nearby. Soon, a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin, a few mice and a magic wand, changes Cinderella’s life forever.
