From the moment I watch Walt Disney Animate feature “Cars” with my boys, I fell in love with the movie because of the way Disney brought these characters to life and my boys emerged themselves into the story. After the film had come out, we bought all the diecast cars from the film, and I remember Matt spending countless hours with sons creating their own stories together. What’s more, many nights were spent watching all of our DVD copies.
Personally, I’ve always felt that everyone could find a character from the Cars Movie Franchise that they can relate too but the movie itself was primarily for boys. However, Disney Cars 3, features some powerful female characters that will inspire, motivate and encourage young girls that they can be anything they set their minds too. I was blessed to attend the Cars 3 press conference where the beautiful • Cristela Alonzo (voice of “Cruz Ramirez”), Kerry Washington (voice of “Natalie Certain”) and Lea DeLaria (voice of “Miss Fritter”) shared their thoughts why they loved working on the film. Below are some highlights from the interview.
Cristela Alonzo (voice of “Cruz Ramirez”) shared with us why she loves playing her Character. “Cruz Ramirez is a great little character I loved playing. What I like about her is that she is very good at what she does but at the same time she still has doubts herself regarding the skills she uses to coach the cars… ”
Next, she discussed how kids will relate to her character.
What I like about Cruz is that she is very relatable to boys and girls in that you may have doubts about things, and you don’t know how you are going to pull something off at the end of the day you realize that the only way to make sure that you can do your best is to actually just go for it and trust your instincts. And I think is something we all struggle with at times.
An important lesson Cristel feel that people can learn from the film is that is all about your skill set not if you are a boy or a girl.
“… We tend to forget that is really is about skill… we don’t reference that she a female driver we talk about how good she is and we see it in the story. It’s one of the lessons that we tend to forget that it is not about a boy or a girl doing something, it is about the best person doing the best that they can. I think that is such a great way to … reminds everybody that we are all alike.”
Kerry Washington (voice of “Natalie Certain”) been a fan of the franchise for many years and was excited to be part of the film. She discussed the lesson that can be learned from the female characters in the Cars 3.
“I do think it is fun to see women in the film who are brave, smart and courageous that are also teachable… women that balance having extraordinary talents and intellect that are also humble enough to learn the lesson they have to learn… to step into the greatness.. that heart and passion is the most important thing”
Lea DeLaria (voice of “Miss Fritter”) has always loved Pixar movies and she shared that it was a dream come true for her to be in a Pixar film. Here is a fun fact she shared about her character. ” They used my high school on the side bus which I think is amazing and the license plate is my birthday.”
