The fifth installment of the Transformers series, The Last Knight, is a lot of fun to watch but has a couple of glaring flaws. Before I get into this, I want to add that I grew up with Transformers, played with them all the time as a kid, and I’m so happy they finally added Hot Rod to the series. A lot of people like to hate Transformers and exaggerate how bad the movies actually are. Don’t get me wrong, none of the films in the series are “multi-Oscar” winning movies. However, I do think Dark of the Moon, and The Last Knight deserve a little bit more love. At the end of the day, Transformers is just a large scale production that’s fun to watch. The way it’s shot, top of the line actors like Mark Wahlberg, the action, and of course, the explosions. But, it isn’t perfect, and that’s fine.
Even though Optimus Prime is absent for most of the film, he’s still my favorite part of this movie and the rest of the series. Just listening to him say “Yo dudes, I’m Optimus Prime, so chill,” after he kicks Decepticon butt gives me goosebumps every time. Cogman is my favorite addition to the series, and I hope he returns in future films because I really identify with him. Lastly, I should note that there is an abundance of cursing, so if you plan on bringing your kids to see Transformers, keep that in mind.
Other than that, Transformers: The Last Knight is what you’d expect from the rest of the series. In my honest opinion, The Last Knight is easily the best Transformers movie to date. I know a lot of people are going to hate on the film, but growing up with Transformers and seeing my favorite characters brought to life brings out my inner child, and I love it. Besides the language, I think Transformers: The Last Knight would be a very fun viewing option for you and your family.
Autobots, roll out!
