3 Top Reasons to See The Hundred-Foot Journey

DreamWorks Pictures “The Hundred -Foot Journey” staring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon is an adorable movie. It’s about a culinary ingénue Hassan Kadam, played by  Manish Daya, with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. His family is displaced from their native India and they decides to settles in the charming village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Where they open an Indian restaurant, Maison Mumbai next to Le Saule Pleureur’s a Michelin-starred eatery. Which creates a heated battle between the two establishments. Until the owner Madame Mallory, recognizes her rival’s (Hassan Kadam) undeniable brilliance for preparing masterful meals.

At first, I wasn’t sure if the boys where going to like the movie. JJ King, my oldest even sighed as we walk into the theater to see the film. However, by the end of the he could’t stop talking to me about film.  Here are the three reasons, I think you should see “The Hundred -Foot Journey”.

Please Feel Free to Share with your Friends:

Culture:

This film did an excellent job at portraying two different worlds of culinary arts which include the India and French cuisine.  I was surprise out how different a chefs daily routine in a France kitchen versus a India kitchen and found it interesting to see how each kitchen operated. There is a very specific way a French chef must prepare meals, where as the  The Indian approach to cooking is spontaneous and relaxed. The film does great job in educating the audience on both.

Indian Cuisine:

I love Indian food and it was nice learning about the different spice used create each cuisine. The movie does an outstanding  job showcasing the diversity of flavors used.

Families Coming Together:

Both family are at war because each one feels their food is superior to the other. However the conflict is really because both family come from two very different cultures. Once the families begin to except each other differences they are able to achieve amazing things together.
