Laika Animation’s newest film “The Boxtrols’ is this season’s must see family film. The movie is about a group of loving creatures who raises an orphaned human boy Eggs (voiced by Isaac Hempstead-Wright) beneath the streets of Cheesebridge. When the Boxtrolls mischievous ways becomes too much of an annoyance for the above community, their mayor Lord Portley-Rind (voice by Jared Harris) makes an unconventional agreement Archiabled Snatcher (voice by Ben Kingsley) an exterminator. Who is determined to do anything in order to be excepted by Lord Portley-Rind and his elite club of cheese loving snobs.
Frustrated with the unjust captures of his friends, Eggs decides to venture above ground and resume them. In the quirky town, full socialite cheese loving snobs be is befriended Lord Portly-Rind daughter Winnie (voice by Elle Fanning). The two discover there’s more to Snatcher and his henchmen Mr. Trout (voice by Nick Frost), Mr. Pickles (v0ice by Richard Ayoade) and Mr. Gristle (v0ice by Tracy Morgan) devious plot to rid the town nuisance. So they join together and devise a daring plan to free Eggs family and save the town.
I had an opportunity to sit down with Ben Kingsley, Elle Fanning and Isaac Hempstead-Wright in a round table interview held in Beverly Hills, California. Where we discussed each of their roles in the movie “The Boxtrolls”and I discovered 3 fun facts I wanted to share with you. Not So Physical:
To prefect the Voice of Snatcher a chair , that reclined into a flat position, was brought into the studio. Which allow for Ben Kingsley to lay in a very still and relax position in order to avoid physical posture affecting his voice. This natural position helped him to put all of his imagination and energy into his voice as he spoke into the microphone.
When I Grow Up:
Elle Fanning big sister Dakota Fanning stared in Laika classic Coraline which took between seven to eight years to record. During this period Dakota spent lots of time going to do voice work. Although Elle was little at the time she had an opportunity to visited the set of Coraline with her sister on numerous occasions. When her turn came around to do the voice of Winnie she came on board with a familiar understanding of stop-motion films.
Multiple Facelifts:
The Boxtroll main character ‘Eggs’ face use over 10,000 different pieces and can be placed into 1.4 million different facial expressions. As a keepsake Isaac Hempstead-Wright kept about 6 faces of his character Eggs face.
