The 3 Best Things To Do On Your First Day In Your New Home

Much like cleaning up the mess of a recent renovation, the moment you step foot in your new home once all the packing boxes have been placed indoors, there are some things you’ll have to do.

Clean up, get wallpaper up, lay any flooring, make sure your items have their proper place – it sounds simple, but the work can take a long time.

As such, you’ve likely made a list of the tasks that need doing ASAP, but it’s best to be sure you’ve popped them in the right order. Namely, make sure these three tasks are at the top!

Secure Your Entry Points

If you’ve been given the keys to your new home and the estate agent hasn’t confirmed the locks were changed after the old owners moved out, tackle this job first. You don’t want to be left wondering if there’s someone out there with a set of keys to your front door – the thought will never quite leave you in peace!

And make sure to consider every entry point here. Floor length windows? See if they can be locked too. If not, you may want to invest in an alarm.

Clean with Antibacterial

A deep clean should be the next thing on your list. You don’t want to use products that just smell good here – you want them to be as strong against bacteria and germs as possible.

Make sure you cover every surface in your new home with a few good sprays of this stuff and then wipe it down and leave it to dry. If need be, pop a mask on to keep the fumes out your face and make sure at least one window is open in every room.

Get inside the oven with some strong industrial cleaner as well and don’t forget to open cabinets and closet doors. You can’t be sure if the house was cleaned before the previous owners left, but you can be sure there’s nothing lingering if you take a couple hours to do this yourself.

Unpack the Bathroom

The bathroom should be the first room you get everything into, in as orderly a fashion as you can manage. Hire some experts from https://www.princemovers.com/movers-sterling-va/ to get your bathroom boxes packed up and moved out early on. You can then get to work on making sure this is a comfortable and accessible room that has every daily essential.

Really, you wouldn’t believe the amount of people who have just moved house and completely forgotten which box they put the toilet roll or wet wipes in! Most people think about keeping the toothbrush and paste in easy reach, but you’ll also want to keep more intimate toiletries like this in the same place.

Order them all put in the same box and have that box near the door of the moving van. Once it’s inside, make sure it’s unpacked right away.

Make the first day in your new home as comfortable as possible!
