Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review

People seem to really be torn on this film, more than I would have ever thought. Personally, I think the latest chapter to the Star Wars universe will go down as a top 3 Star Wars film for me. Of course, the movie wasn’t perfect, but it stayed true to what Star Wars is while producing scenes I will never forget. This film has some of the best action sequences I have ever seen in a Star Wars film, by far.

I waited for the honeymoon period to end before I started to write this so that I could give it a fair review. There was a sequence in the movie where Finn and Rose go on their own adventure that seemed to distance itself from the rest of the film dramatically. While it did technically drive the plot forward, it’s still my only complaint only because of how significant the change of pace was throughout their arc.

I thoroughly enjoyed Luke’s involvement in The Last Jedi; I thought his performance paid homage to Master Yoda in the original Star Wars films, and it was a joy watching Luke and Rey together on screen. Speaking of Rey, seeing her grow as a character and watching how she and Kylo Ren interacted is probably one of the most exciting things in The Last Jedi. It was also nice seeing Poe Dameron get a little more action in the film; I thought he played a major part and fulfilled the ‘rebel’ in rebellion.

To me, it felt like no one was safe in The Last Jedi, throughout certain scenes I honestly felt worried for the wellbeing of some characters, and it takes a lot for a film to pull that off successfully. I have said this already, but I will stress it again: the action scenes in The Last Jedi are some of the best I have ever seen, not only in Star Wars, but in all of the action genre. The Force Awakens was good, but The Last Jedi literally made my jaw drop like four times, this movie is an absolute gift to Star Wars fans.

I think Rian Johnson did a great job directing The Last Jedi. The plot kept progressing without taking any significant pitstops. The scenes were held at the perfect length for the most part, and the movie was shot beautifully, on top of the fact that the new landscapes were gorgeous. Surprisingly enough, I wasn’t entirely annoyed by the Porgs, and I ended up falling in love with those adorable critters. I still think they came into being because Disney wanted to sell plush toys, and that’s fine, but they did this while giving the Porgs some actual significance in the film and I give kudos to them for that.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was an absolute blast, and I enjoyed every second of it. This movie is a great viewing option for the family, of course, but I don’t think I need to tell you that to convince you to see it. If you’re not watching it this weekend then what are you even doing, my friends? As you know, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out in theaters now so grab your tickets and lightsabers now!
