The Ultimate Summer Craft: Sponge Water Bombs for Mess-Free Fun

As a busy mom, my summers are filled with hanging out at the pool and having epic splash fights with my kids. There’s nothing better than cooling off with a good water balloon fight, but let’s be honest, picking up all those tiny balloon pieces afterward is NOT fun! That’s where sponge water bombs come to the rescue! They’re an easy, DIY solution to the messy aftermath of water balloon fights. Plus, they’re not just for outdoors – they’re also perfect for bathtime fun! The best part? You probably have everything you need to make them already at home.

Why Sponge Water Bombs Are the Way to Go

  • Mess-free: Say goodbye to the endless cleanup of balloon bits.
  • Reusable: Simply soak them in water and they’re ready to go again and again.
  • Affordable: Sponges are a more budget-friendly option than balloons.
  • Safe: No risk of popping balloons and potential injuries.
  • Versatile: Use them outdoors or in the bathtub for year-round fun.

What You’ll Need:

  • Sponges: Choose colorful, absorbent sponges. You can cut larger sponges into smaller pieces or use smaller sponges as they are.
  • Scissors: For cutting the sponges, if needed.
  • Rubber bands or Zip Ties: To secure the sponge bombs.

Easy-Peasy Instructions:

  1. Cut: If using larger sponges, cut them into strips about 1-2 inches wide and 4-6 inches long.

  1. Stack: Gather 8-12 sponge strips and stack them together.
  2. Secure: Wrap a rubber band tightly around the middle of the stack.
  3. Fluff: Gently pull and separate the sponge strips to create a round, fluffy ball shape.

That’s it! Your sponge water bombs are ready for action. Soak them in water, then toss, throw, or launch them for a splashing good time!

Tips and Tricks:

  • Get creative: Use different colored sponges or tie-dye them for a fun twist.
  • Store them wet: Keep your sponge bombs in a container of water to maintain their shape and absorbency.
  • Experiment: Try different sizes and shapes for varying splash effects.
  • Play games: Organize a sponge water bomb toss, tag, or obstacle course.

So ditch the messy balloons and embrace the reusable, mess-free fun of sponge water bombs this summer! Your kids (and the environment) will thank you

I’ve always loved playing with water during childhood and also with my kids. When an idea of crafting something so easy as a water sponge game comes along, I can’t resist sharing with my kids.

We love this because you get to reuse them, I was getting tired of the mess and waste that you get with water balloons. Plus I think in the long run you use less water.

I love that these are items that I keep handy so I don’t have to purchase anything! Plus it’s pretty simple to create so my kids could assist me. Different but sure to produce the same level of fun as water balloons.
