Earlier this month, I was blessed with the opportunity to attend the press conference for Solo: A Star Wars Story and it was a treat. Before the press conference, there was a hall where there were multiple photo-ops, a green screen, food, and the real set pieces that were used for the Millenium Falcon with Chewbacca.
Overall, the conference was well informed, great questions and answers were provided, so allow me to share some of my favorites with you all!
When Alden Ehrenreich was asked about how it felt like to step into the Millenium Falcon, Alden responded by saying:
“It’s wonderful — particularly being in the Millennium Falcon is very, very cool. One, you get in, and you can’t believe you’re in it, and it’s so surreal, and that’s what everybody you bring to set wants to see, and they have that experience, too. And then, you know, a couple months into shooting in it, you’re inside of it, and you’re flying it. You know where the buttons are. You know how the chair feels, you see the yoke, and you feel like, ‘okay, this is kind of like my ship now.’ And that is deeply gratifying.”
When Donald Glover was asked how it felt to be taking on the role of Lando Calrissian, Donald shared:
” As a seven-year-old boy, I pretended to be him. And like you know, I had like a have Darth Vader who had a lightsaber, and I bit it off, and I gave it to Lando. And then my mom wouldn’t let me have the lightsaber anymore because she thought I’d choke on it. It was really cool, I told my agent, I was like, ‘if they’re making anything with Lando in it, I have to be Lando.’ And he was like, ‘I hear you. I don’t like your odds.’ And that was exactly what I needed to hear. Because I really did audition like it was like the only role I wanted in the world. I’m just really happy to be part of this experience.”
At the conference, it was noted that while Joonas Suotamo was playing Chewbacca, he was asked for plenty of Wookiee hugs. Joonas added by sharing:
“When I got to know that I was going to be playing this character, I really couldn’t sleep at night, and I was so excited because this was a life-changer for me. I mean, I was borderline jobless when I got this role. So my now fiancée, my then girlfriend, has seen me go from living with my mom to becoming Chewbacca. That’s the span of our relationship right now.”
Well, there you have it guys! These were my favorite highlights of the Solo: A Star Wars Story press conference, I hope these questions and answers give you great insight into everyone’s experience shooting and acting in the film. The film light speeds into theaters May 25th, a review will go up closer to the film’s release, so come back for that!
Until Next Time
