Now you can EXPERIENCE a Disney classic film like never before! Disney’s “THE LITTLE MERMAID”: Second Screen Live, is an amazing new interactive theatrical event the whole family can enjoy. This NEW screen technology allows audiences to engage with the film, each other and their fellow audience members.
On September 20, this beloved musical adventure returns to select theaters for a special limited engagement and I was one fortunate to be one of the first viewers. Since Joy is only 11 months old, I thought it would be neat to invite one of my long time friends and her 11 year old daughter. As if the movie itself isn’t entertaining enough, we where able to play multiple mini games using our IPad by simply downloading the free “Second Screen Live: The Little Mermaid App”(currently this app is only available for Apple iPad or iPad mini)
From start to finish we were encouraged to become a part of the story. We were able to interact with the film via game play and compete against participating viewer’s in the audience for the chance to win great prizes! Mini- games included hidden treasure, puzzles, mazes, sing along’s and more.
The multiple mini games did not fail in keeping my little guest entertained. What’s more, I believe this unique film has revolutionized how family see films and takes family time to a whole new level. I enjoyed singing along with the characters as the song played during the movie and trying to find the difference is a clever mini game called scuttle scope. There were numerous parts of the film that brought on tons of laughter amongst the three of us, making this a remarkable memory. I love how we were able to compete against others in the audience and at the end we were one of the top five to win a Limited Addition “Little Mermaid” Poster.
Although it was only one child in our group, there is no need to have several iPads. Disney has incorporated enough games, that big families can easily pass the iPad around for everyone in their group to have a turn. In our the audience there where kids of all ages. However, I recommend this for 1st graders and up. If you bring a younger, this film is stocked with enough mini-games to keep your tech savvy toddler entertained. Just expect to have to help them a bit more.

It’s pretty cool that Disney is giving new, interactive life to their classic films. I just wish they would recognize that not everybody has an iPad!

You know this is the first run, I am sure they will make this technology for all tablets at some point.
