Seasonal Maintenance Tips To Protect Your House All Year

The changing weather of the Southwest US can wreak havoc on homes throughout the year. Homeowners must protect their houses from weather conditions like scorching heat waves and unexpected rainfalls.

You should perform seasonal maintenance to protect your family and home. I’ve created a list of seasonal maintenance tips to help you take care of your home through all seasons.

Summer

Summers in the Southwest can be brutal, and I’m not just talking about heat waves! Many households experience pest problems during the summer months. Inspect your home for cracks or crevices where pests can enter. Look for holes in your walls, vents, or drains and seal them ASAP. Also, check for signs of termite activity, as the warm weather can draw them to your home.

It’s best to tackle repairs as soon as you find an issue. You may need to make other home improvements, such as installing a smart doorbell.

Fall

Autumn is a beautiful season, but it can bring about unique challenges to homeowners in the Southwest US. Fall temperatures can fluctuate rapidly, which could cause problems with your home’s heating and cooling systems. I strongly recommend hiring an HVAC professional to inspect your home’s heating and cooling systems at the beginning of the autumn season. Choose a local HVAC contractor because they understand the area better than anyone.

You might love autumn because of the beautiful falling leaves. However, they can easily clog your home’s gutters and render them useless. Clean your gutters regularly in the fall to avoid water damage to your home on rainy days.

Winter

Winters may not be as harsh here as in other parts of the country, but it’s important to keep your home prepared for the chill. First, inspect your roof for damaged or missing shingles. A deteriorating roof can lead to water damage and cold air leaks, which would make your heating system work harder for the same output. Additionally, check your fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Fire hazards are common in the winter, so make sure your detectors have fresh batteries so they can alert you of danger.

Spring

Spring brings a sense of renewal, and it’s the perfect time to jump on home maintenance. Start by checking the windows for damage—chips or cracks—that may have occurred during the winter. Sealing these cracks or replacing the windows can save you from experiencing air leaks. Then you can reduce your energy bills and keep your home comfortable.

Additionally, spring is the perfect time to inspect your home’s exterior for damage caused by storms and make sure it’s in good condition. After a storm, walk around your property and check for structural damage from high winds, rain, and other weather conditions.

Seasonal maintenance is essential for keeping your home in top shape all year. Follow these tips to prevent costly repair bills and keep your family safe. Perform regular checks, or better yet, schedule an annual inspection from a professional. Your home is your sanctuary, so take care of it, and it will take care of you.
