The Monterey Bay Aquarium is captivating and from the moment I entered the building, I felt like I was emerged in a world under the sea on a quest to Find Dory. I was able to attend this event because Disney/Pixar, sent me to Monterey Bay Californian on an all-expenses-paid press trip, in exchange for my coverage of this and others events, all opinions are my own.
I’ve always been mesmerized by Monterey Bay California, and although I’ve passed by this quaint seaside town on numerous occasion, I’ve never had an opportunity to visit. Until last month, when I was invited to attend a special press event for Disney upcoming film Finding Dory.
As part of the Finding Dory press event, The Monterey Bay Aquarium hosted V.I.P behind the scene tours that included getting up close and personal with an octopus, observing a Sea Otter being fed, and several other once in a lifetime experiences.
Getting acquainted with an Octopus
I figured I would begin my search to Find Dory with a Behind the Scene Tour of the Octopus exhibit. Where others and myself was granted a rare opportunity to touch a Giant Pacific Octopus!!! Although I was a bit afraid the octopus, he was rather friendly. As I reached my hand out to touch him, he began to wrap his tentacles around my arm and I jumped. However, the staff told me that’s how octopus remember what they come in contact with.
It was such a remarkable experience, I recorded a short video of my encounter below.
My Sea Otter Experience
Unfortunately, I didn’t Find Dory at the Octopus Exhibit. Therefore, I headed to the Sea Otter Exhibit to watch the playful mammal get their daily feeding. Whenever, I use to take my boys to our local aquarium we loved watching the Sea Otters get fed. However, I never dreamed that I would have a chance to watch the feeding behind-the-scenes.
As I joined a small group of other press members, we were lead up to staircase where we could view the feeding from an outside platform. the is above tank. It loved watching the Sea Otter engage with the Monterey Bay Aquarium staff and could have stayed there all day. However, I was on a mission to Find Dory and my task was incomplete.
I enjoy my time with the Sea Otter so much, I thought I would share Monterey Bay Aquarium Sea Otter Live Cam below.
A bit of a detour
At this point, my luck in Finding Dory seems slim. Plus, I have to admit; I became a bit side tracked will all the amazing exhibits in the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I begin to daydream about bringing my family back to aquarium and how much fun it’s going to be. Of course, I quickly snapped out of my daydreaming as I walked past the Aquarium Gift Shop.
The Aquarium has two separate gift shops that are adjacent to each other. One is more family friendly housing items that little hands can’t break. While the other has some of the most beautify items where you are sure to find a gift for everyone
Finding Dory
Although, Monterey Bay Aquarium is now officially one of my favorite family-friendly destinations. My time to Find Dory was running out. After checking out Splash Zone & Penguins exhibits that has over 45 interactive exhibits in English and Spanish and families can explore the ocean together. I finally found Dory!
I made a video below to capture the moment.
