Queen of Katwe is one of the most inspirational movies I’ve seen. Therefore it was truly a monumental moment for me to celebrate the film release with the cast. The movie is based on the vibrant true story of a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.
The Red Carpet was elegantly and decorated with the films Movie Posters. I quickly took a picture on the carpet and recorded a quick video to capture this moment, for my future grandchildren.
As guest arrived on the carpet and made their way into the theater as some of the cast stopped to speak with the media and below is a short video of Lupita Nyongo sharing her thoughts on the movie.
After we screened the movie guests made their way across the street to the Hard Rock Cafe for the after party.
As I entered the party, it felt more like a family get together then a big Hollywood shindig and I didn’t mind at all. I made my way to the buffet tables and grab a few turkey sliders, which were delicious by the way. However, the best part of my meal was eating with Zuri Ross and her mother. I loved Zuri character on Jessie so it was nice being able to sit and chat with her a bit.
After, most of the party goer’s where done eating Madina Nalwanga (“Phiona Mutesi”) & Martin Kabanza (Phiona’s brother “Brian Mugabi”) surprised guest by hitting the dance floor. Later on, Lupita Nyongo join in on the fun.
As the kids were dancing, I noticed two handsome gentlemen off to the side talking. My friends, I was so curious about who they were. I decided to go up and politely ask.
It turned out it was Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje who best known for his roles as Lock-Nah in The Mummy Returns, Nykwana Wombosi in The Bourne Identity, Mr. Eko on Lost, all of which I loved watching. He was with Rodney Charles known for his role in Tears of the Sun. It was nice meeting them both in person.
I thank Walt Disney Studios for blessing me to be a part of such a wonderful night. Look for ….
