Today’s DIY Princess Boxtumes is brought to you by Amazon in partnership with Forward Influence. All thoughts expressed below are my own.

Since my husband and I are both creative people, Halloween is one of our favorite times of the year because we get to make fun and spooky creations. Many DIYers have developed #boxtumes in the past, and I was mesmerized by the unique ways they were using Amazon smile boxes to create halloween masterpieces.  With all of this inspiration, we absolutely couldn’t resist the opportunity to create a Boxtume this season for our daughter.

You may be wondering, what exactly are Boxtumes? They are creative costumes made at home using Amazon Smile boxes and crafting supplies that you already have around the house. You can also use the boxes to make other Halloween decorations around your house tailored to your individual personality from stylish masks to creepy door ornaments.

I have a small confession to make.  My family loves our Amazon Prime membership, and we order something at least once a week. The convenience of having our household essentials along with many other items shipped to us within two days makes Amazon our first choice when it comes to buying almost anything we need. On any given day you can find Joy and her dad making playhouses using the boxes, so of course we were very excited about this particular project.

Here’s our last minute DIY Princess Boxtume using hot glue and duct tape.  You don’t have to sew a thing, which is definitely a bonus.

Materials needed for our DIY Princess Boxtumes

1 medium Amazon smile box

1 small Amazon smile box

1 roll of duct tape

1 X-ACTO Knife or box cutter

1 glue gun and 1 pack of glue sticks.

1 36 ft pack of purple tube meshing

1 36 ft pack of silver tube meshing

2 9 ft rolls of wide silver wired ribbon

1 pack of adhesive gemstone in various sizes

1 pack of flower gemstones

1 sheet of pink adhesive rhinestone wrap

1 set of 3 flower ornaments

4 yrds of flannel or felt fabric

Instructions for our DIY princess Boxtumes

Step 1

Create your princess form by using a medium smile box, cut out the piece to create the bodice of your princess dress by using the template below. Then vertically role each piece to make the cardboard more pliable. Finally, connect all 5 pieces by placing them side by side joining each piece together using duct tape.

Cut out 2 decorative pieces for your bodice using the extra scraps from the medium box.

Using a smaller box, create the bottom of your princess dress by turning the box upside down. Cut a hole that is big enough for your child to comfortably fit through and reinforce the circle using duct tape.

Step 2

Using flannel or felt fabric, cover your princess dress form by placing the the bodice face down onto the fabric. Next shape the piece over the top and bottom of the edges of the cardboard and secure using hot glue.

Add 2 loops on each side by cutting out (4) 4 inch mesh tubes. Then take each piece and secure them to the cardboard by using hot glue. Making a small slit in the fabric, pull each loop through the hole and shape the fabric over the left and right side of your bodice, securing the edges of the fabric with hot glue.

Using flannel or felt fabric cover the 2 decorative pieces for your bodice by placing them face down onto the fabric, shaping the piece around the edges of the cardboard and securing the fabric with hot glue. Add a loop to the top of each piece by cutting out (2) 4 inch mesh tubes. Take each piece and secure them to the cardboard by using hot glue.

Finally, using flannel or felt fabric cover the bottom of your princess dress by turning the smaller box upside down on the fabric and shaping fabric over the cardboard securing the edges with duct tape.

Step 3

We decorated our princess Boxtume by using purple and silver mesh tubing, diamond and flower shaped gemstones, wide silver wired ribbon and a flower ornaments.

Add the shoulder straps for your dress by attaching the silver mesh tubing to the front of the circle on the left and right securing the ends with duct tape.

Next, thread the silver mesh through the two loops on the top of your bodice. Then attach the silver mesh tubing to the back of the circle on the left and right securing the ends with duct tape. Next, thread the silver mesh through the two loops on the back of your bodice. Then take both sides of the silver mesh tubing and tie into a bow.

Finally, close the back side of the bodice by threading the purple mesh tubing criss cross through the two loops and tying a bow to the top.

Step 4

Create your crown by cutting out the shape as seen above, then join both ends together with duct tape. Next, using flannel or felt fabric, cover your princess prime crown by shaping the fabric around the top and bottom edges and securing on the inside rim of the crown. Finally, decorate as shown above and add the Amazon Prime Smile Logo.

There you go, your last minute DIY Princess Boxtumes is complete. I really enjoyed creating this costume with my Husband and Joy loves it. Thank you Amazon for having me as part of this campaign.
