Sushi is already delicious, but it seems like it tastes even better when served in fun bento boxes.  In celebration of the release of Kung Fu Panda 3, we’ve created felt Kung Fu Panda 3 bento boxes craft. Today’s fun craft is sponsored by Fandango Family, as part of the Fandango Ambassador program; all options are my own.

Commonly used in Japanese cuisine, bento boxes are small  containers that feature small sections, which are typically packed with tasty items such as sushi, rice, fish, meat, and pickled vegetables. Our  Kung Fu Panda 3 Bento Boxes Craft is easy to make, fun, and even educational. Children can learn about Japanese cuisine, which may even inspire picky eaters to try it!

The supplies you’ll need for your Kung Fu Panda 3 Bento Boxes Craft are:

bento box supplies

  • Felt
  • Scissors
  • Glue

  1. Place the bentu box template over your felt, then cut it out. Click here for our template.

2. Cut out three stripes to use as sections on the box. Use a color that will stand out so that the sections are easy to see. Here, we’ve used tan.

3. Glue one stripe down the middle of the box, horizontally. Then adhere the other two stripes vertically to create six small sections.

4. Use our template to create two sizes of circles for the sushi rolls. Use white for the larger circles, to serve as the rice. Choose different colors for the smaller circles. Cut out edamame, dumplings, and smaller shapes to use for sushi roll accents, also all found on our template.

5. Apply glue to the backs of the smaller circles. Next place the smaller circles on top of the white circles to make your sushi rolls.

7. Cut out thin strips of black felt to create swirls in the center of the rolls.

8. Glue the small shapes onto the sushi rolls.

9. Have fun moving the different pieces of food around the box. The felt will adhere to itself so there’s no need to glue. Plus, not gluing allows your child to play around with the food inside the box.
