Smart products and appliances are steadily increasing in popularity in homes across the United States. New technology, such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and mobile-friendly services are changing almost every aspect of the way we live, making it easier for us to save money, save energy, and ultimately live more sustainably. The convenience of smart homes and new technology is easy to see, but how exactly is this technology affecting the way we use our home HVAC systems?

Many Americans are already familiar with programmable thermostats. We can set them to heat or cool at specific times, on specific days, making our homes perfectly comfortable at exactly the right time. The problem is that 40% of programmable thermostats are not used as designed. Our HVAC systems easily comprise up to half of our energy expenses.

Smart thermostats reduce these costs. They connect to WiFi, learn our habits and employ algorithms to set efficient schedules, program themselves, and can be controlled remotely via web interface or smartphone app, which can come as a reassurance with children or pets in the home when we’re away. Kids love to push buttons, and abilities to lock or change settings from anywhere improves their safety.

Many smart thermostats also have zoning capabilities, which allows individual settings for different areas of the home. Some smart thermostats can also connect to smart assistants, enabling us to control our thermostats with our voices.

Smart HVAC Systems

A neglected HVAC unit works harder than a well-maintained system to deliver the same results. A properly serviced system also expends minimal energy, contributing to the sustainability of your household and saving you money on energy costs. In this sense, your HVAC system maintenance is much like it is with a car, because taking care of minor issues on a regular basis prevents bigger problems down the road.

Unfortunately, these things often slip our minds. A smart HVAC system lets you know when maintenance is needed before serious hazards arise. This will help you and your family avoid the hassle of emergency service calls, which can be quite costly.

Smart systems, which are WiFi connected and can be controlled remotely, even allow for some diagnostics to be run by technicians remotely. This improves customer service efficiency and reduces how often you have to pay a technician to come out to your home, also saving you money.

Virtual And Augmented Reality

When it comes to VR and AR in the HVAC sector, future implications are seemingly endless. Imagine extra safety features for the whole family. The syncing of diagnostic equipment could allow technicians to monitor for carbon dioxide leaks or identify indoor air pollutants and where they originate. These VR technologies also enable technicians to undergo training procedures as efficiently as possible, maximizing their availability to you and your family.

Everything is smarter these days. Fully automated homes will soon be a reality, enabling us to control our comfort, safety, and sustainability down to the last detail.
