As I mention, I had an amazing to be part of a special press trip for the release of Disney/Pixar “The Good Dinosaur” as part of the trip I had the opportunity to receive a guided tour of the Black-ish set with Tracee Ellis Ross and I screened two upcoming episode. I was able to attend this event because Disney/Pixar, Disney Channel, and ABC sent me to Los Angeles on an all-expenses-paid press trip in exchange for my coverage, all opinions are my own.
During my visit to the set, I learned some very interesting fun facts about Black-ish from Tracee Ellis Ross. So as always I wanted to share them with you.
Here’s 5 Things you didn’t know about ABC’s show “Black-ish”
Open Space – the set Black-ish is very open spacious, and walls in each room are designed to come off. Although they mostly shot from one side of the room or through the door, the layout makes it easier to set up each scene and cuts down on set up time.
Keep it Handy – Tracee keeps her script handy by hiding them in the drawers of each room they are shooting in so that if she needs to review her lines tehy are handy.
Tight Schedule – The Young cast of Blackish work based on a set schedule. They have specific times throughout their work days for school, lunch breaks and how long they can work each day. For instance on Friday’s, they come in at a later time and end the day at 10 pm. However, from Monday – Thursday they come in early and end the day much earlier.
Not Twins – Tracee Ellis Ross’s is much different the Characters she plays on Blackish. Her style is much different Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson. Bow doesn’t wear heels or dress up much. However, Tracee wears them all the time and dresses up a bit more.
Famous Mother – Did you know Tracee Ellis Ross’s is the daughter of the famous singer Diana Ross. I didn’t even know that until the day of my set visit.
Dre has always looked out for the crew he grew up with, but when his childhood friend Sha (guest star Faizon Love) comes to stay at the house for a few days, Bow thinks he is taking advantage of Dre’s generosity. Meanwhile, Daphne Lido (played by Wanda Sykes), the now ex-wife of Stevens & Lido’s founding partner, gains control of half of the company and wants to start inserting herself in company business. When Daphne starts to question Charlie’s work ethic, Dre must decide who he remains loyal to.
