25 year’s ago I went on a date with this really handsome guy to Universal Studios Horror Nights. I ask him if he wanted to go again during that week. He said “Yes,” so we did. He must of really enjoy those dates because by Christmas he proposed to me.
Sponsored by Universal Studios Hollywood all options are my own.
This year, Universal Studios Hollywood invited Matt and me to “Halloween Horror Nights.” Prior to becoming parents, we use to go all of the time, but as each child entered our lives our sense of adventure fell by the wayside and was replaced with child-friendly events.
Nonetheless, now that our youngest, Joy, is in school we have made a commitment to each other to return to doing the things that we enjoyed doing when we first started dating.
Of course, the #1 item on our list this Halloween was to do Southern California’s most extreme Halloween event “Halloween Horror Nights.” This event is designed to taunt, terrorize and torment guests as they navigate the darkness from one frightening maze to another.
Here’s why I think “Halloween Horror Nights” is the perfect Date Night.
1) Limitless Cuddle Time
Not that I need an excuse to hug my hubby but the mazes are super scary, and I spent most of the night in his arms. At one point as we walked through “Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios Hollywood, new maze “The Shining,” terrified me so much that I wanted him to carry me out. In the past, that wouldn’t have been an issue but let’s say, we are not in our twenties anymore. Therefore, I had to drum up the courage to make it out on my own.
As a teen, this movie scared me, so as an adult experiencing this maze, it was surreal. I was warned that for the first time ever, the psychological horror film, The Shining, will bring unspeakable terror to “Halloween Horror Nights” guests in a terrifying new maze. They didn’t lie. As I walked through the maze it felt like I was reliving some of the film’s most iconic and sinister moments. While Matt and I ventured through the eerie Overlook Hotel, we were thrust into the hotel’s tragic history of murder and madness, bearing witness to caretaker Jack Torrance’s spiraling descent into insanity. Nightmarish visions truly came to life in this macabre maze and were very overwhelming. In the end, I just wanted to escape the wrath of Jack Torrance as he violently succumbs to the hotel’s paranormal forces.
2) A Variety of Things To Do in One Location
When we were in college we didn’t mind waiting in long lines in order to get through mazes. Often times, that meant we missed a maze in order to see a show. This year, we had a front of the line pass and felt like we were VIP’s. We didn’t have to wait in hour-long lines. We were able to do all the mazes and see the Jabbawockeez show.
The Jabbawockeez, is one of my favorite dance crews. I watched them compete on World of Dance this year, so it was amazing seeing them perform live!!! Donning their signature white masks, the diverse group of dancers performed a repertoire of innovative, synchronized choreography accompanied by a stunning laser lights display that came to life in a full spectrum of color. The all-new, high-energy Jabbawockeez show, was created exclusively for “Halloween Horror Nights,” and was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to see.
3) Not Just another Dinner and Movie Night
Matt and I tend to plan our date nights around dinner and a movie. However, it was liberating to brake our routine and be adventurous. “Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios Hollywood, immersed us as guests into a three-dimensional world of terror. This year’s event featured a new slate of unrivaled film and television production quality mazes, frightful scare zones and a fully re-imagined “Terror Tram” experience – all uniquely themed to today’s most definitive horror properties. I wished we could have also done the new R.I.P. Tour. It invites guests in groups of up to 14 to scare in style with an exclusive VIP guide that also includes unlimited front-of-line privileges to all mazes and attractions, as well as a gourmet buffet dinner, drinks and valet parking.

Well, I am very happy I got a chuckle out of you :). Honestly, as a mom you know after the kids come into the picture, a number of hugs tend to fade away. Not because we don’t want to be affection it seems like time gets in the way, you know.

What scares me the most at haunted houses is when actors have really scary makeup. I would freak the heck out if I saw that pig faced creature.
