If you haven’t noticed yet, I can’t stop talking about Marvel Black Panther because I truly believe this movie is a masterpiece that everyone ages 13 and older show see. I had an opportunity to interview to two amazing stars from film Daniel Kaluuya (“W’Kabi”) & Letitia Wright (“Shuri”) interview.
I WAS INVITED TO AN ALL-EXPENSE PAID TRIP TO LOS ANGELES COURTESY OF DISNEY TO ATTEND THE #BLACKPANTHEREVENT & #ABCTVEVENT IN EXCHANGE FOR MY COVERAGE. NO OTHER COMPENSATION WAS PROVIDED. ALL VIEWS SHARED ARE COMPLETELY MY OWN.
Daniel Kaluuyam, is known for his performance in the critically acclaimed horror film Get Out (2017), for which he earned numerous accolades, including nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, SAG Award, and BAFTA Award for Best Actor. In Marvel Black Panther he plays W’Kabi is the head of security for the Border Tribe.
The people of the Border Tribe live on the borders of Wakanda and serve as the first line of defense for the country. To outsiders they appear to be what people would “expect” of a small African nation—but the truth is they are some of the fiercest warriors in Wakanda, intent on protecting the secrets of their nation at all costs.
Letitia Wright is an upcoming actress known for her breakout hit Urban Hymn (2016). Although, her career in just getting started, I personally think she stole the show as Shuri T’Challa’s little sister and a smart-mouthed, tech wizard. Princess Shuri, is second-in-line for the throne behind her brother and is the smartest person in Wakanda—the top scientist and the innovator behind the Black Panther’s updated suits and technology.
During our interview, Letitia and Daniel share a few fun facts that I could wait to share!
Princes Leia Hair “The first scene, we tried on this outfit that Ruth created with the cape and all of that stuff and the silver skirt. And then I put my braids into two separate buns just for fun, and then Ryan saw it and asked, ‘is that how your hair’s gonna be?’ And I was like, ‘no, no, no, no, no we’re gonna plan something,’ he’s like, ‘no, it feels like Princess Lea.’ ~ Letitia Wright
Sword Training “We did a lot of sword training. I had to, from scratch. I think what was amazing, everyone had to have their own fighting style and the whole kind of different styles within the community. Everyone had their own fighting style that reflects their character. ~ Daniel Kaluuyam
Social Media Ghost – “… We’re from London people that actor from London I find sometimes we, we don’t have that type of world back home looking for the results of what people think on social media, we kind of like do the work and hide… So, when stuff like that happens, it takes time to like, I take a long time to go on and see what people are talking about.” ~ Letitia Wright
Inspiration to Young Girls Across the World “It’s crazy because this film is pretty much years of prayer and I, your words are powerful man because this is something I would pray when I was a teenager just getting into acting, like, whatever I do, I just want to be a vessel to be of inspiration. Doesn’t have to necessarily mean that that character is not flawed or perfect or has to be a perfect character but just to inspire. When this opportunity came up, I understood the
magnitude of Shuri in this, in the comic books. I understood where her journey is and it’s huge. ” ~ Letitia Wright
