Since launching MrsKathyKing.com in 2008, many of you have watched me evolve—from mom blogger to entertainment influencer, then into insurance, solar, and now back to where I’ve always belonged—marketing. Now CEO of a cutting-edge AI-powered marketing agency… it’s been a beautiful, unpredictable, purpose-filled journey. But here’s the truth few know: my career actually started in advertising long before any of this at the age of 20 giving marketing advice to our neighborhood Dojo that helped them grow.
Before MyCouportiara (if you remember that site, you’re a true OG 💁🏽♀️), I was an Advertising Executive selling Yellow Pages. Yep—the original local business directory that laid the foundation for digital ads as we know them. I won awards for top sales, earned recognition companywide, and closed half-million-dollar campaigns like clockwork.
But despite my success, and more than that—I missed my boys, who were, at the time, in 1st and 3rd grade. I knew I could do better for myself and them. I wanted to create something for me. So, I made what many thought was a wild decision: I left corporate to launch my own marketing firm.I remember the CEO of the company telling me it was “the worst mistake of my life.”
But life is full of turns.
I later returned to corporate, this time with a Fortune 50 company ranked #32 in the U.S., working as an Internet Accounts Executive. There, I received monthly corporate marketing training, earned my Google Ads certification, and worked with attorneys, plumbers, HVAC companies, and more—routinely ranking in the top 25 of over 300 reps.
I had a great salary, company car allowance, amazing benefits—but I wanted a daughter. And I knew the stress I was under wouldn’t support that dream. So I stepped away and started a humble coupon blog after watching Extreme Couponing on TLC. I just wanted to help my community save money.
That blog grew faster than I imagined. My community loved the savings tips, and I loved helping people, but behind the scenes, I experienced multiple miscarriages. I was heartbroken. I nearly gave it all up. I’ll never forget telling my dad through tears, “I feel like a failure.” I wasn’t earning six figures anymore. I couldn’t carry a healthy child. But he looked me in the eye and said, “Anything worth working for takes time.” He gave me a blessing that I’d one day have a daughter—with triple my personality.
And he was right. She keeps us very busy—and we’re so thankful.
When I finally conceived her, I experienced a difficult pregnancy due to my age. It was harder on my body than we expected, and I was placed on bed rest for most of the pregnancy. I took time off to rest and—more importantly—reconnect to being a mother, especially with my boys now in junior high and high school.
When I returned, the blog transformed into what you see today: MrsKathyKing.com. I began covering Disney films, transitioned into brand influencer campaigns, and started creating sponsored content for Walmart, Kia, Vizio, and more. I also had the honor of working on several printable activity campaigns for Sony Pictures Animation, including the homeschool study guide for Universal’s A Dog’s Purpose—which we co-developed alongside Sherri Seligson, M.Ed., a renowned Apologia curriculum author.
Life was moving, but my heart still wanted to do more. I earned my life insurance license—a decision that aligned perfectly with the stillness of COVID. Helping families protect their loved ones gave me purpose in an uncertain time. And I was good at it. I understood people. I listened. I advised. And it taught me more about humanity and heart than I could’ve imagined.
But then came a call I’ll never forget.
A young man phoned me, crying. His father had just passed, and I was one of the last texts on his dad’s phone: “Are you ready to move forward with the coverage we discussed?” His father had opted for a cheaper policy that wouldn’t mature for two years. Instead of $20,000, the son would only receive $150.
I remember that father. And I remember thinking: some decisions are irreversible.
That moment deeply impacted me—and I decided to pivot again, this time into solar sales.
And I loved it. I truly did. I enjoyed helping people save money on their energy bills. I loved the sales process, the psychology behind every presentation, and the joy clients expressed after opening a utility bill that had dropped significantly. It was rewarding.
But as time went on, I noticed something… I was doing more marketing than solar.
One of my marketing friends, someone who had been in the game for decades, helped me realize that all the years I spent “trying other things” were actually building something bigger. A skill set. A perspective. A mission.
And then, my husband said something that hit home:
“Why don’t you just go back into marketing? You’re great at it. It’s your gift.”
He was right.
Even when I wasn’t officially consulting, people still came to me. Old clients. Friends. Colleagues. They asked for help with branding, campaigns, social media, and strategy.
And then came the spark that changed everything—ChatGPT.
My mentor introduced me to the world of prompt engineering, AI automation, and productivity tools that opened my eyes to a new level of marketing potential. I dove in headfirst. I learned how to build systems. Use AI for branding, copywriting, CRM, and more. That curiosity turned into strategy. Strategy turned into vision. And vision—full-circle return to the industry I never really left.
And so, I launched Tiara Marketing.
Today, I lead a powerful team helping trade show vendors, enterprise-level brands, and contractors to:
- Streamline lead nurturing and conversion funnels for trade show vendors and enterprise brands
- Voice AI and smart receptionist systems (like our Your Booth Butler™)
- Automate follow-ups for expos, local services, and online inquiries
- Creative campaign support from designing brand assets, newsletters, to sales funnels that convert
One of my proudest moments? Being part of the team that not only developed but also designed the free homeschool curriculum guide for DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot. It was a five-day family curriculum built around the film, leading to a final matinee field trip. Full circle, again.
A Marketer in Every Season
At one point, I was embarrassed to talk about my journey. I thought people would say I lacked focus. That I wore too many hats. That I was a “jack of all trades.” And at one point, I believed them. I felt embarrassed by my Résumé.
But today? I wear that title with pride and see it for what it really is:
💡 A masterclass in life, led by experience.
Because what I’ve really been is a marketer in every season. A strategist. A storyteller. A helper. And every path—insurance, solar, content creation—was just preparing me to lead Tiara Marketing with clarity and purpose. With every turn in my path making me stronger. Every pivot gave me perspective. And every season—whether it was in loss, motherhood, or career—refined my purpose.
Closing Thoughts
I used to think I had to explain or justify my journey.
Now I realize—my journey is the reason I’m uniquely qualified to do what I do.
I’ve lived the hustle. I’ve known heartbreak. I’ve raised kids, built businesses, and lost and found myself more than once.
But I’ve never stopped creating. Never stopped marketing.
And I’ve never stopped believing in what’s possible.
If you’re still reading this, thank you. You’re part of this journey too. And if you ever need help telling your story, reaching your people, or building a business that reflects your purpose—just know, I’m right here.
We’re just getting started.
What’s next?
I’m excited about the future. I plan to share more of my personal journey right here—with all the highs, lessons, and little miracles in between.
So stay tuned…
Because we’re just getting started.
