The County Fair, at last. What could be more American? Car shows, fried everything ( and I mean EVERYTHING ), bumper cars, Ferris wheels, huge portions of food to stuff your face, and the live shows of course. Today’s post is family friendly tip is sponsored by the LA county fair, all opinions are my own.
This year, the LACF has approximately 1200 food items to choose! Can you believe that? Thankfully, I’m here to let you know where to find the best of the best; the undeniably mouthwatering food you can’t find anywhere else but the Fair.
Let’s get into it!
Chicken Charlie’s:
With a name like Chicken Charlie’s, this stop is sure to fulfill all of your chicken cravings, not to mention fry anything that’s edible! Chicken Charlie’s has fried Oreo’s, chicken and waffles, and a Krispy Kreme donut triple cheeseburger on their menu, just to name a few. Since my mother a 2015 LA County Fair Ambassador, we had a chance preview a several of the food items for this year’s fair. At the event, we were lucky enough to try their fried slim fast bar, bacon chicken and waffles, and my mom’s favorite: fried guacamole. But wait, there’s one thing that you need to try if you plan on visiting Chicken Charlie’s with your loved ones or friends.
Our favorite: The Maui Pineapple and chicken boat. Served in a hollowed-out pineapple, this beast of a meal is sure to feed 1-3 people. As you can see in the picture above, the MPCB is filled with diced pineapples topped with chicken straight from the grill. I’m not a fan of pineapple, I’ll admit it, but this food was so tasty that I could tolerate the pineapple, and that’s a bold statement as is. Or maybe my tastebuds have changed after several years, you know they do change every seven years, right?
Route 66 BBQ/ AKA Cornucopia Foods:
Honestly, who doesn’t love BBQ? Classical BBQ and sauces are this food stand’s specialty. With items like pulled pork burgers and chicken and waffles in a cone to try, you’re guaranteed to be treated with hospitality through their food. The smell of the BBQ being cooked will be sure to reel you in as it did myself, I’m not kidding. I felt my body levitate to their counter like there was a baked apple pie in their window, felt like an episode of Looney Toons.
Our favorite: Spicy PB&J Burger. Wait! Before you say ‘Ew!’ I must say I had said the same before I tried it for myself. Guys, this burger rocks. I’m craving it as we speak; I was so mindblown by how delicious this thing was. Somehow, the sriracha and peanut butter just worked in a way that was undescribable, the burger itself was cooked to perfection, and the jelly wasn’t overwhelming. As you can see, the burger is also very glamorous, I think I’m in love.
Lori’s Concessions/ AKA Tasti Chips:
Famous for their many choices of fried potato chips doused in nacho cheese and many other toppings. Tasti Chips is another place I think you should visit if you’re trying to be cost efficient and share whatever you buy. Living in Southern California, I’ve had multiple renditions of nachos, and these are probably some of the best nachos I’ve tried.
Our favorite: Gluten Free Jalapeno Cheese Tasti Chips. I admire the fact that these chips are gluten free like a lot of the other Fair food items available. They had a crispiness to them that you can’t find in and another type of nacho. With nachos being as simple as they are, it’s hard to make them unique and or put them in the spotlight like Lori’s Concessions has.
Chuckwagon:
This is one of the many BBQ places you’ll find at the LACF this September. Located in the same vicinity as the other places we mentioned, this stop isn’t hard to find, and it has a beef and mashed potatoes to die for. I must add that the staff who worked the stand we’re also very kind and enthusiastic about serving my mom and I.
Our favorite: Deep-Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings. Have you ever had a fresh batch of onion rings or a crunchy caramel apple? Well, this is their baby. Out of the many dessert items that we tried, this one was the best we tried by a landslide. Like many of the other food items available at the LACF, you can share this one with your friends or fam. Mom says it reminded her of a freshly baked apple pie, are you hungry yet?
Pink’s Hot Dogs:
If you live in LA you’ve probably heard of pink’s, and if you’re featured on their wall of fame, you know you’ve made it big. Pinks has not only been an LACF must visit, but a Southern California must visit since 1939. If the conversation is about the best hot dogs in Los Angeles, Pink’s Hot Dog’s will come up, they’re also great to put on Instagram because their abnormal size is so recognizable.

Our favorite: Jalapeno Dog. It’s like having a bite of SoCal; there isn’t a better way to describe it. Just like any other Pink’s hot dog, this one is cooked just right and comes out of the steamer at a warm and inviting temperature. Speaking of temperature, the jalapenos are packing heat, and they’re fresh and crunchy, thank goodness! Everything about this hot dog is bliss, and everything about this hot dog is right.
Until next time!
