In the world of superheroes, everyone knows Superman and Batman, and we know what their job is, to save the world from the bad guys, the villains of Gotham and Metropolis. This weekend Warner Brothers and DC is about to introduce you to a new squad, and they’re not like any squad you have seen before. Here is what you need to know about DC’s new film ‘Suicide Squad.’
Following the death of Superman in ‘Batman V Superman’ the government is looking for new ways to fight crime and protect themselves from super powered beings like General Zod in ‘Man Of Steel’ or Doomsday in ‘Batman V Superman.’ In comes Amanda Waller a ruthless, high-powered government official with a plan. Waller has made it her job to get as much information as she can on people with otherworldly powers and incarcerated supervillains. Her plan is to gather a team of these supervillains and send them out on black-op type missions when needed in exchange for shorter sentences. Of course the government resists, that is until they are in trouble and a new force threatens to take over the planet.
Waller immediately starts recruiting imprisoned supervillains from the Belle Reve Penitentiary and we are introduced to some epic characters that also happen to be dangerous criminals. Deadshot (Will Smith) is a high-tech hit man, El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) an ex-gangster with pyrokinetic powers (he can throw flames from his hands), bank-robber and thief Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Killer Croc (Adwale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) a giant cannibalistic crocodile, Slipknot (Adam Beach) a trained assassin who is a master with ropes, and one completely deranged Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie.) With Colonel Rick Flag in charge, the squad sets out on their first mission, a suicide mission.
Written and directed by David Ayer, the film is raw, gritty and at times downright disturbing but in the best way possible and completely by design. Ayer blew the world away with ‘End Of Watch’ and brought the same intensity and grit to ‘Suicide Squad.’
While the action sequences are dispersed throughout the film, there is no loss of excitement. Each moment you spend with these characters is thrilling.
There are several appearances of members of the Gotham crime fighting team including Batman and even one of our favorite villains the Joker. Jared Leto’s joker is unlike any version of the joker you have seen before and it’s absolutely intoxicating.
When your watching ‘Suicide Squad’ you get completely immersed in the world of Gotham mostly due to the incredible set pieces and awesome costumes. Open in theatres everywhere today ‘Suicide Squad’ is an absolute blast. You will find yourself, for once, rooting for the bad guys. While the film is rated PG-13, it does push the limits extensively, so leave the little ones at home and enjoy a fun and exciting date night or maybe even a girls night out if you’re a comic book movie lover of course!
See you at the movies,
Krisily
