Have you seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens? If so, you probably fell in love with BB8. And what’s not to love? This little droid is cute, speedy, and makes an awesome pal. You can give your favorite fan a DIY BB8 Doll yourself, and all you need is a minimal amount of supplies and a good imagination. As they say, the devil is in the details, and they are right about this one. The details you add are what make this doll come alive. Fortunately, you can add as many or as little as you want.
The supplies you’ll need to make your DIY BB8 Doll are:
- Felt
- Hot glue gun
- Stuffing
- Scissors
- Provided Template
Step 1 — Print out our BB8 doll template, cut it out, then place it on top of two white pieces of felt that are stacked on top of each other. Click here for the template.
Step 2 — Trace the template onto the felt, then cut it out. You should have two bodies when you are done.
Step 3 — Apply a thin line of glue along the outside of the piece you plan to use for the bottom. Do not glue the bottom edge, as you’ll need that open to add stuffing later.
Step 4 — Immediately place the top piece on the bottom piece and press along the edges to ensure the glue adheres. You’ll need a tight seal to prevent any stuffing from leaking out.
Step 5 — Add stuffing through the bottom. Use a spoon with a long handle, or another similar object, to reach the head.
Step 6 — Apply hot glue along the open bottom edge and seal the doll together.
Step 7 — Print out our other template, cut out the designs, and use them to create the shapes for your BB8 doll. Click here to print the template.
Step 8 — Hot glue a large orange circle to the middle of your doll, then add some of the additional orange and gray pieces to make BB8’s signature design.
Step 9 — Cut the other orange circle in half, then glue the halves along each side of the doll. Place additional gray pieces inside of each semi-circle.
Step 10 — Place gray and orange lines across the top of the doll’s head.
Step 11 — Add BB8’s eye in the center of the head.
Step 12 — Glue a small gray circle to the lower right of the center eye, then place another black dot on top of that.
Step 13 — Cut out small strips of black felt, and use them to create black semi-circles around the doll. Use our printable template as a guide.
Step 14 — Use additional thin black strips to add even more detail to your doll.
Step 15 — The beauty of this project is you can add whatever details you want. Here’s what our finished product looks like:
