Mornings can be challenging for everyone, especially busy moms who often have many tasks to complete before starting their day. Developing a morning routine can make a significant difference in the quality of your day. It can help you feel more empowered to handle all the responsibilities of being a mom. Having a morning routine can provide numerous benefits. A morning routine can reduce stress by providing structure and predictability to your day. When you know what to expect, you can mentally prepare yourself for the day ahead. Starting your day with a routine, allows you to prioritize your tasks and get a head start on your to-do list, which helps you feel more productive and accomplished throughout the day. Starting the day with a positive habit, such as morning exercise, can improve your physical health and set the tone for healthy choices throughout the day. With so many benefits to having a morning routine, there is no question about whether or not you should have one, but more about what you should include in your routine.

Wake up earlier

Waking up early and before your kids can be a game-changer for busy moms. This can give you the time to prioritize self-care, personal growth, and healthy habits. Adding this into your morning routine gives you more time to accomplish your goals, whether getting a head start on work, exercising, or spending time on hobbies or personal projects. Getting up earlier can also reduce stress from feeling rushed or behind schedule. Wake up 15-30 minutes earlier than usual, and gradually adjust your wake-up time until you reach your desired wake-up time. If you typically struggle with anxiety, depression, or dual diagnosis in women, consider spending that extra morning meditating or journaling or practicing deep breathing. It can help reduce stress and anxiety and improve your focus throughout the day.

Get outside

As a busy mom, finding time to exercise can be difficult, but making the time can significantly benefit your physical and mental health. Exercise can boost your energy levels and improve your overall mood, setting a positive tone for the rest of your day. Another morning workout benefit is that exercise can improve memory and attention, which can help you be more productive and efficient throughout the day. Getting outside for exercise exposes you to Vitamin D, which is essential for bone health and overall immune function and can help regulate your circadian rhythm, improving sleep quality and overall health. If you’re new to exercising or haven’t exercised in a while, start with a 10-15 minute walk or jog. As you feel more comfortable, you can increase your workouts over time. Consider finding a friend or family member to exercise with in the morning. Finding a workout buddy can help keep you accountable and make exercising more enjoyable.

Eat breakfast

Skipping breakfast can be easy, but breakfast is critical in boosting your metabolism and increasing lasting energy throughout the day. You start your day with an empty gas tank when you skip breakfast. This can make it difficult to focus, stay alert, and be productive throughout the day. Eating a nutritious breakfast gives your body the energy to handle your morning routine and stay focused and alert throughout the day. So, how can you ensure you’re eating breakfast as a busy mom? Set aside time the night before to plan your breakfast for the next day. There are many easy breakfast ideas, such as preparing overnight oats, making a breakfast casserole that you can reheat in the morning, or packing a breakfast smoothie that you can take on the go. Keep recipes simple and be prepared with some on-the-go options, such as yogurt and protein bars. Even some fluffy pancakes can be worth it.

Having a morning routine can make a significant difference in the quality of your day as a busy mom. By incorporating healthy habits such as waking up earlier, getting outside for exercise, and eating breakfast, you set a positive tone for your day and prioritize your physical and mental health. Adding these healthy habits into your morning routine can benefit you as a busy mom and set a positive example. It can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus, and promote well-being. By prioritizing your physical and mental health, you can show your children the importance of self-care and healthy habits.
