Smallfoot is an adorable film for kids that has the perfect blend of cuteness packed with a few important life lessons for kids. It’s an animated adventure that is perfect for all ages, with original music that kids will love and an all-star cast.
“Smallfoot” turns the Bigfoot legend upside down when a bright young Yeti finds something he thought didn’t exist—a human. News of this “smallfoot” throws the simple Yeti community into an uproar over what else might be out there in the big world beyond their snowy village, in an all-new story about friendship, courage and the joy of discovery.
I was blessed with the opportunity to interview Channing Tatum (“The LEGO® Batman Movie,” the “Jump Street” films), Common (“Selma”) and Director Karey Kirkpatrick ( “James and the Giant Peach”, “Chicken Run”, “The Spiderwick Chronicles”, “Charlotte’s Web”) and they shared what they hope kids will take away from seeing the film.
Here’s 3 Lesson’s Kids Will Learn from SmallFoot
Courage is more than being a HERO
“…kids go to movies and they think, oh, to be a hero, just slay a dragon, to blow up the death star, and that takes courage. Courage is actually standing up and doing the right thing when it’s hard. To stand up and actually tell the truth, when that is not the popular thing to do.It’s not the easy thing to do so to have some integrity, and have it not be necessarily about you. To do the right thing is remarkably hard. And I think they should know that to stand up for a friend who’s being bullied, you know, to do little things like that, those–that’s courage. That’s heroism. And something as simple as telling the truth when it’s difficult is–maybe they’ll look at this and go, okay, Migo did it.” ~ Karey Kirkpatrick
Don’t Be Afraid to Share the truth
“I think the thought that it’s okay to think for yourself and to question things that you’re being told because, you know, as kids especially, we inherit so many things that we say this is what should be done and this is how it’s done. But, even as adults, too, we hear that. And the only way to progress is to challenge those things sometimes….. So, I think the–finding the truth, and speaking that truth, and believing in that truth, and not being afraid to share that truth is, I think, one of the great messages we have in this movie.” ~ Common
Accepting the Truth
Accepting the truth is hard sometimes and change is kind of scary, but if you accept that about it, it doesn’t have to be that scary. It can be a joyous thing.
~ Channing Tatum
I hope you find 3 lesson’s kids will learn from SmallFoot helpful. My daughter, Joy, not only adores the film, but she also makes me play “Wonderful Life” performed by Zendaya all the time.
