When the boys were little, it felt like I used vinegar to clean everything. However, as they grew older, I went back to my old ways and began using cleaning products that weren’t chemical free. Lately, my daughter Joy has been wanting to help me with everything from cleaning the bathroom to washing dishes (finally!). Since it’s time for us to do our spring cleaning, I thought I would make her a batch of kid-friendly all-purpose disinfecting spray for her to use as she cleans her bedroom, toys, and other areas of the house.

The ingredients in my kid-friendly all-purpose disinfecting spray are cost-effective and most may already be in your kitchen. Here are the benefits of each of the natural products include in the recipe.
White Vinegar – Vinegar inexpensive, non-toxic and biodegradable and is good natural product to use when disinfecting play areas and toys. It’s also known to kill the flu virus.
Lemon Juice – Lemons are a great alternative to bleach because the citric acid in lemons have antibacterial and antiseptic cleaning properties.
Baking Soda – Baking soda is an alkali, and when mixed with water, it does a wonderful job of dissolving grease. TIP: a great cleaning solution for hard-to-remove grease.
Peppermint Oil – Peppermint Oil has antibacterial properties making it a perfect addition to any home-made cleaner.
How to Make Kid-Friendly All-Purpose Disinfecting Spray
What you need:
1 Spray bottle
1 Cup water
½ Cup white vinegar
½ Cup lemon juice
2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
20 Drops of peppermint oil
1 Tablespoon Dish Soap (optional)
1 Pitcher
1 Wooden Mixing Spoon
Directions:
Pour 1 cup of water into a clean pitcher. Then slowly mix in 2 tablespoons of Baking Soda, stirring it until it dissolves. Next mix in ½ cup lemon juice, ½ cup vinegar, 20 Drops of peppermint oil, and 1 tablespoon of dish soap. (*The Baking Soda will cause the cleaning solution to fizzy up when you add the other ingredients, continue to stir until the fizzing stops.) Finally, pour into the spray bottle.
Recently, Joy decided to get a little creative in her room and used the paint from an art project we were working on to place handprints all over the beautiful mural her father painted on her bedroom wall. For an added touch she decorated several of her toys as well. Therefore, we will be spending some extra time cleaning Joy’s bedroom walls as we do our spring cleaning. I will definitely be using Bounty since it is a product that I grew up with and trust. I know when it comes to tough stain, Bounty paper towels always hold up. Yet gentle enough to clean my little diva face.
