The latest installment to the very successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise reintroduces us to its iconic charm, while at the same time add new and memorable characters. My personal favorite is Salazar, the new villain in the series played by Javier Bardem, who is known for playing extraordinary villains, such as his roles in Skyfall and No Country For Old Men.
Without further ado, here are 5 Fun Facts About Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales:
1. The Disney crew built at least three replicas of Salazar’s ship.
Javier Bardem shared: “The ship that I am the captain of, they built like three of them! And one of them was a life-sized ship, again, you get on board, you are on a boat, you don’t need to imagine it because it’s there ( referring to an early question about how difficult it was to get into character ).”
2. When the original Pirates of the Caribbean was released, co-stars Brenton Thwaites ( who plays Henry ) and Kaya Scodelario ( Corina ) were 14 and 13 years old.
Kaya added: “When I saw the movie come out, I remember it being a huge part of the social scene at school, before social media and all of that you used to have to whisper in each other’s ear, and I remember the movie being all we talked about that week it released.”
3. Directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg were childhood friends who used to shoot short films on Ronning’s Father’s camera.
4. Paul Mccartney was pursued to do a cameo in the film by Johnny Depp himself.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer stated: “I with I can take credit for getting Paul to do the cameo, but Johnny is responsible for that. The two of them got together, designed Paul’s costume, and came up with their scene together. Paul was really excited to be a pirate.”
5. Kaya Scodelario broke her shoulder while filming on the Black Pearl.
When asked how Kaya broke her arm, she shared: “I slipped on the Black Pearl of all things. We had it on a gimble so that it looked like it was docked on land and I was running from the bow to the stern, and I tripped on one of the steps. I’m fine now.”
Bonus fact: When asked what their pirate names would be if they had the opportunity to nominate themselves, directors Ronning and Sandberg said they’d be Captain Morgan and Sharkbait.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales sets sails for theaters Friday, May 26th and is sure to be one of the strongest additions to the franchise, so don’t miss it!
