If you’re looking for a sleek and sexy restaurant to dine in with family or friends Sushi Roku is your place. While the restaurant has modern decor similar to higher end restaurants, the food is very affordable and mouthwatering. The location me and my family visited is conveniently located in the heart of Old Pasadena, California. I’m a big sushi eater, and I would eat sushi every day if I could, Sushi Roku is by far the best place I’ve had sushi. Not only does Roku serve the best sushi, but it’s also one of the nicest restaurants I’ve dined in.
Me and my family were blessed with the opportunity to try a large portion of what Sushi Roku had to offer on their menu. In a tough debate, we managed to find our favorite items.
Let’s get into it!
Kid’s Menu: Yes, you’ve read that right, this sushi house offers a variety of different meals for your little ones. Finding sushi places that offer something for your youngins is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. Luckily, I’ve found that needle for you.
All of the kids menu items come in boxes that separate all of the sushi items with small barriers within every box. I know many of you will find this convenient especially if have young ones who are picky eaters and don’t like to have their food touch. Every kids meal is guaranteed to come with edamame and applesauce while other’s may include steamed rice, broccoli, and tempura potatoes. What separates each of these choices the most is the primary protein that it includes. The kid’s meal that came with tuna and cucumber rolls with a side of shrimp sushi is what happened to be Joy’s favorite of the two we tried. If your young one doesn’t like tuna, then there are chicken and beef skewers on the kid’s menu. And if they’re still not feeling it, no need to worry, you can also get Japanese fried chicken that is just as good.
Me, Mom, Dad, and Houston’s favorites: We tried a plentiful amount of Sushi Roku’s entrees, needless to say, we ate well that Saturday evening. If you ever find yourself debating on what you should or shouldn’t order I can guarantee that there is no wrong answer.
Katana Rolls: This was everyone’s favorite by a landslide. Spicy tuna and shrimp tempura topped with tuna and yellowtail are sure to spoil you and your taste buds. What I like most about this dish is the way you can savor each layer of fish individually even though you taste it all at once. Did we order more than one of these rolls to split between the family? You betcha. Did we have a small debate about who should have the last roll? You get the idea.
Beef Rib Eye Wrapped Asparagus: Doesn’t the title of the dish alone convince you to order it? I adore vegetables, but I didn’t give asparagus a chance until now, it just went so well with the perfectly cooked rib eye. Presented like a dish you’d find at a very high-end restaurant with an affordable price, how can you possibly go wrong?
Softshell Crab Rolls: I would probably know more about this entree if my mom hadn’t hogged the entire thing for herself. And even though the Katana Rolls were our favorite, these rolls were probably the most coveted. They looked as great as they tasted based on my mom’s excessive yet accurate reactions. Expect your loved ones to ask to share as well, which is very doable.
What isn’t there to love about Sushi Roku? The restaurant itself leaves a vibe that you’d find when visiting higher end restaurants; the food is all plated beautifully and rewards your taste buds. Sushi Roku showed me how diverse sushi can be, and that there can be something for anyone to enjoy, even the little ones. If you’re itching to try something different and family oriented, Sushi Roku is your place.
Until next time!
JJ King.
