Alice Wonderland is a timeless classic we all grew up with and some of us may have read Lewis Carroll second book “Alice Through the Looking Glass. However, this film is a beautiful rendition of the book with its’ own twist. In Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.
I was blessed to meet with filmmaker where I discover some fun facet on the making of the movie that I hope you find as interesting as I did.
Here are 5 Fun Facts from the cast of ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
1) Fancy Pants
Although Mia Wasikowska (“Alice Kingsleigh”) wardrobe collection includes stunning dresses and beautiful trousers since Alice’s character is so active, her favorite outfit in the collection were the trousers.
“Alice is really active so anytime; I got to wear the trousers this were a bit more accessible.” ~ Mia Wasikowska
2) Mr. Time
In Alice Through The looking Glass James Bobin (Director) introduces us to time as an actual entity and/or human being managing it from another realm.
“Any sort of time travel is an interesting concept for mathematicians. So I hope Lewis Carroll would have approved of us using time travel in this movie. One of the main characters in the movie Time (Sacha Baron Cohen), which is a character that I introduced to this world but it is not my idea it is Lewis Carroll. Lewis Carroll wrote in the first “Alice In Wonderland Book” when Alice first encounters the Mad Hatter. The Mad Hatter says to Her “I am stuck in this tea party because last March Time and I quarreled.” I thought that would be a good idea as a character for Alice in the Looking Glass. ” ~ James Bobin
3) Connecting the Dots
Have you ever wondered why the White Queen was so different than her sister, the Red Queen? This was something that Anne Hathaway (“The White Queen”) found interesting and was excited to dig deeper into her character’s reason for being so kind.
“On of the things I was excited about exploring with my character in this film as my the White Queen in the first film talks a lot about how she can not harm another living creature. I always thought that was a vow that not necessarily her soul. So, who is the White Queen? She is the Red Queens Sister, so she has to have some of her sister’s darkness running inside of her as well. However, she chooses to keep a very repressed. In this film, you discover why she had to take the kindness vow.” ~Anne Hathaway
4) Don’t Do it Just to Do It
Many times you find filmmakers creating sequels just for the sake of doing it. However, Alice Though the Looking Glass’s producer Suzanne Todd wanted to create a story that digs deeper, therefore, took time, to develop the film.
“We didn’t want to make a squeal just because the first movie had been successful. We really wanted too find themes that were interesting to us and relevant to Alice’s characters journey in the first movie and that took us some time.”
~ Suzanne Todd
5) Confronting Time
In Alice through the looking Glass Sacha Baron Cohen plays time and Alice needs time to help her with the Mat Hatter’s situation. Mia shared with us take on this new character in the film.
Sacha is the King of Playing a confident idiot, and both characters relationship is quite humorous. Alice is the only character in the film that is not intimidated by him and doesn’t have a problem calling him out on is idiotic. Which is quite entertaining.”
