Aladdin Diamond Edition is coming to Digital HD, September 29th and Blu-Ray, October 13th and to celebrate, the Walt Disney Studios held a press event and screening.
Mrs. Kathy King was away on a press trip, so she invited me to this wonderful event for her. Arriving at the studio, my two granddaughters and I made our way to the Legends Plaza where a bazaar had been set up with game and activities.
The girls, both dressed in their Jasmine outfits, ran to the various booths which included Abu’s Coin Toss, Aladdin’s Basketball Game and Iago’s Bag Toss where they enjoyed trying their luck and winning an assortment of prizes, from fairy wings to figurines. Learning the fine art of hip swaying at Jasmine’s Belly Dancing booth was amazing, while the Magic Carpet Stories for the older granddaughter and Genie’s Coloring Table for the younger one were a huge hit.
An assortment of delicious breakfast items including croissants, donuts, muffins, yogurt and coffee and juice to boost our energy and delight our tummies while the soundtrack played in the background made the morning event perfect.
After enjoying the bazaar, we made our way into the theatre, grabbed our popcorn buckets and found our seats. Sitting in the theatre, waiting for the film to begin, I was reminded of the first time, I enjoyed Aladdin with my then 10-year-old daughter and 8 year old son. The excitement of watching a Disney movie was always high in our family, but the premiere of Aladdin which was rumored to be another masterpiece, had my kids squirming in their seats and me just as excited.
After a brief introduction by Ron Clements (Co-writer and Director) Scott Weigner (Voice of Aladdin) the lights dimmed and we were off on the journey to Agrabah and a whole new world. As the adventures of Aladdin, our favorite Genie, the beautiful Jasmine and the evil Jafar, was shown on the big screen, I occasionally glanced at my two granddaughters who sat hypnotized and I was grateful to be able to share this moment with them as I had years before with my children.
The film ended with audience applause and a few of us wiping a tear or two. Walking out, we enjoyed yet another magical experience when the girls (and I) had the opportunity to meet and take pictures with some of their favorite Disney Channel stars, including Joey Bragg (Liv & Maddie), Ricky Garcia (Best Friends Whenever) and Nathan Arenas and Nina Lu from Bunk’d. A golden book autographed by Scott Weigner and the celebrity sightings were the highlight of the oldest granddaughter while the younger one was happy to dress up as Jasmine and take home her artwork. While I thought about the incredible talent of Robin Williams, who I’m sure was there in spirit.
