October 21st, 2015 marks the date Marty Mcfly and Doc Brown traveled to the future in the Hollywood classic: Back To The Future Part Two. The movies’ idea of what 2015 would be like is accurate and some ways and incredibly inaccurate in others. If you’re lost in the craze of “Back to the Future” day, no need to worry, I’ll enlighten you on what you should and shouldn’t be looking for.
1) One of the most iconic scenes is when Marty hops on a Hoverboard he borrowed from a little girl to get away from the cliche Hollywood bullies. The working hoverboard we have today is at most a technological breakthrough and at least a novelty. It has a series of limitations that don’t make it anything quite like what’s portrayed in the movie. For starters, our version of the hoverboard works with the use of strong magnets, meaning ours wouldn’t work in places without metal. Nonetheless, the hoverboard we have today is easily lovable, and it’s progress to the final result.
2) During the classic, we also see Marty put on a pair of Nike Mags with power laces, basically a fresh pair of sneakers that laced themselves. To answer your question, yes, those do exist today but they’re not easy to obtain. Back in 2011, 1,500 pairs of these sneakers were sold on eBay; there’s speculation as to whether or not they’ll be sold again in 2016. Another thing came to life from this blockbuster.
3) In the movie, it says the Cubs have won the world series, if this had been said a year or two ago, you would’ve been laughed at. Surprisingly enough, the Cubs are in the playoffs as I’m writing this, it’ll be eerie to find out that they did end up winning a championship.
4) Now let’s talk about the inaccuracies the movie portrays about 2015. Firstly, we don’t still use FAX machines, especially not the way they were used in the film. Secondly, we don’t have movie theaters with holographic ads that target those who are happening to walk by. Sadly, we also don’t have mini pizzas that turn into giant edible pizzas in a matter of seconds, the closest thing we do have to that is your regular microwaveable foods. And we most certainly don’t have flying cars, although they seem to be much more dangerous than the ones on the road.
Watch the film for yourself and let us know if you find anything odd or similar about 2015 in Back to the Future Part Two. The similarities and differences between the two universes seem to be half and half, although I see many of it’s predictions happening in our near future and many of us will be excited to get to live by the nostalgia.
Until Next Time!

Yes, there are flying cars however, you can’t legal drive them on the road, like the movie portrays.
