If you haven’t seen Toy’s Story 4″ you are truly missing out!!! The newest installment to this beautiful franchise that many of us have grown up watching is filled with a few new characters that you are sure to love. However, that one that I feel stand out the most of Officer Giggle McDimples, who happens to be the smallest character and voiced by the first Asian American actress to voice Pixar character.

I had a wonderful opportunity to interview Ally Maki the voice of Giggle McDimples where she shared a few fun facts.

Here’s 5 Toy Story 4 Fun Facts about Ally Maki the voice Officer Giggle McDimples.

Are you Kidding Me
When Ally was asked by Pixar to play the part of Officer Giggle McDimples, at first she thought it was a prank because of how lavish Pixar invitation was put together.

“It was on a fancy paper letterhead with a picture of the Incredible on top and it said, “Dear Ms. Maki we would love for you to be a part of this film.” And I was like this is a Joke. I thought it was a prank but it was attached to a box that had all of this Pixar merchandise in it from all their films and a black binder, that I still have, of early concept drawing of her…” It just blew my mind and I thought this is not real life this just has to be a prank.” ~ Ally Maki

Just be yourself
Pixar is known for their characters sharing the unique personality and features of the voice actor or actress for the role.

“The first thing I ask the Pixar Team was if they wanted me to do a voice and they said, “Absolutely not, we do the casting to make sure we just choose the person that is internally what we want the heart of the character to be.” At that moment I just felt, you know, great to be myself and bring whatever kind of energy I wanted to bring as well as what they wanted. . . they also record the sessions and then animators took my personal facial expressions and make that piece of a part of my character. So when I see her, I really do see myself.” ~ Ally Maki

Vintage Polly Pocket Fan
Growing up Ally had a collection of Polly Pocket toys that she was crazy about.

“O my Gosh! I literally had a collection of them growing up that I still have today. I call them my vintage collection with like the rollout mat made of plastic and the towel and everything and make your own towns and villages” ~ Ally Maki

What kids can learn
In every family film that Mrs. Kathy King team screens we like to know what kids can learn from seeing the film. During our interview Ally shared with us what she hopes kids will take away from seeing the film.

“First, to be a part of the universe and play the tiniest character to exist I think is already such a powerful message because I grew up as an Asian American female and we didn’t have much representation as being a woman of color and just been a position that was only male-dominated fields. So, I think already Giggles is breaking so many barriers… You know we are redefining what women are and can be, especially women of color. I think the Toy Story represents so much to me growing up because I grew up along with this franchise and I feel like I was the perfect age to grow up loving it. We didn’t have that much representation Toy Story shaped so much of my childhood because I can see myself in all the characters. You know they went past that it was you could Rex’s, Slinky Dog, or Woddy and I think that is a powerful message.” ~ Ally Maki

Two Things To Celebrate
During the interview, we noticed a beautiful ring on Ally Maki hand. When asked, ” Ally is that an engagement ring?” she shared a very special story with us.

” Yes, it is! You guys I got engaged after the Premiere. So after the party, we went back to the hotel, I was going to change my shoes and I walk in and I see rose petals on the floor. And I was like wow the Roosevelt is really treating us good… Then, my fiance, start crying and one of our friends was behind him recording the whole thing. In his mind, he knew what a big moment this day was for me, it felt like the culmination of my whole life, pushing in this industry that I felt like didn’t really want me or except me. So he knew what this moment was and he has planned the whole thing, Josh Cooley and his wife Erin kind of helped him plan it. ~ Ally Maki
