With all honesty, I discussed with my family and friends how Kevin Costner had a tendency for being the “kiss of death”, in the movie industry, boy was I wrong. “McFarland USA” executes the idea of taking a great story and turning it into a film. Who knew I would find myself committed to a film such as this one? Usually I’m into football flicks, however, McFarland USA had the ability to easily sprint its way into being one of my favorite sports movies of all time.
So let’s jump into it, or should I say jog? Anyway, here are five reasons you should take your family to see McFarland USA: Please feel free to share with your friends of Twitter, Facebook & Pinterest!
- The storytelling is golden: I was given the opportunity to see the emergence of one of the greatest cross country teams in the United States. I do believe that many people will be able to relate to the main protagonists in the story.
- Kevin Costner: Again, I was wrong. He did an excellent job and I think this is one of his best performances. He was funny and very convincing in his role as Coach Jim White.
- Latin Culture: Latin Culture is widely renowned in Southern California and it receives plenty of recognition in this film. I felt as if I was witnessing the lives of the main characters and their families at first hand. The film did an excellent job educating the audience on Latin traditions and the daily lives of pickers in central California.
- It’s Inspiring: This true story can teaches and reminds viewers that champions truly can come from anywhere. No matter what race you are, where you live or whatever your financial standpoint might be, you can accomplish your goals. My spirits were lifted and it gave me a motivational boost.
- The emotions: My mother “Mrs Kathy King” cried four times throughout the film! Honestly, I nearly cried (I won’t go too far into detail about that ). So many powerful messages were sent and I received every single one of them. I felt the joy and despair of all the characters as I watched the film. Disney did it again and won the race on movie McFarland USA.
Until next time ~ JJ King
