Last month, I was bless to see an advance screen of Disney “Million Dollar Arm”.  At first, I wasn’t very enthused about seeing the movie because it looked like another sports film, to me. Plus, I’m not into sports especially not baseball even though my husband played baseball when we were dating. So you kinda of get the picture. However, I was invited by Disney to attend the screening and I thought it would be a perfect film to see with my oldest son.

After having an opportunity to see Disney “Million Dollar Arm” I can clearly said “It’s not a sports movie”. Although it is based on a true story about sports agent JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm). The movies is a great display of what the people can accomplish with second chances, encouragement and determination. I thought, I would share with you three factors in the story that makes this movie so inspirational.

-1

Second Chances

The movie focus is around an pivotal time is JB Bernstein life. His industry had changed and things weren’t going well in his career. In a last-ditch effort to save his livelihood, he come up with a scheme to find baseball’s next great pitching arm. So he stages a reality show in India in hopes of discovering the next  Yao Ming of baseball, amongst the cricket loving population. However, he quickly finds out that the task at hand is not as easy at he thought. Ultimately, Bernstein does finds the undiscovered raw talent he was searching for (Rinku Shing and Dinesh Patel). However, getting them trained well enough to play for the majors, transform Bernstein in a way he did not expect.

Encouragement

When Bernstein brings the boys back to America he moves them into home. At first they’re just and investment to him . However, through trial and error he learns that it’s going to take more then just dropping them off at practice to accomplish his goals. Jb becomes like a surrogate father and he learns to build them not only on the filed but through love and encouragement. What’s more, the investment he thought he was chancing, becomes family he was not expecting.

-5

Determination

When, Rinku and Dinesh leave their home to come to America it’s like visiting another planet. In addition to having to train for a position in order to play Major Leagues baseball, they both have to adjust to America culture.  Simple things such as using an elevator or drinking water from a fountain was a new experience for them. However, despite their challenges they keep trying accomplish their dreams.
