Why does there seem to be pushback in Hollywood when it comes to bringing a relevant Christian-based movie to the big screens of America? A plethora of us celebrate our faith openly as Christians, yet films that demonstrate or relate to that very faith are far and few between. With the glimmer of light and hope that is “Miracles From Heaven,” we hope to see an emergence of new movies with themes which will easily inspire us all, religious or not. Today’s post is part of a paid Megan Media and Sony Pictures Blogging Program. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own.
We were invited to a VIP screening of the Sony Pictures film,“Miracles From Heaven,” before it hits theaters March 16th. The film is based on a true story, and follows the journey of the Beam Family and their daughter, Anna, who is suffering from a rare and incurable disease. The Beam Family has to travel out of state to visit the top specialist in the country in order to undergo extreme medical trials and treatments in an attempt to cure their daughter’s disease.
When Anna returns home with little hope of recovery, she experiences a freak, near-fatal accident, and then a miracle unfolds. This not only mystified her doctors, but inspires the Beam’s local community as well.
“Miracles From Heaven” has reminded me of the essence of hope, and now it’s your turn to see it in theaters and experience an inspirational and uplifting film.
After the screening, my mother and I had the pleasure of attending a Q&A luncheon event with the film’s producer and New York Times best-selling author, DeVon Franklin. We learned about the efforts of the film’s producers to have the movie touch on Christianity and Faith, while at the same time, steering away from sounding too “preachy.” We found it interesting that DeVon was named one of the Most Influential Christians Under 40 by Beliefnet and one of the Top 100 Influential African-Americans in America by Ebony Magazine. To add to the intriguing facts about Mr. Franklin, he was also an intern for Will Smith at the age of 18 before his career lifted off.
While there are plenty of life lessons one can take away from this movie, it’s best we narrow it down to the three most relevant to today’s society.
Let’s Get Into It!
Miracles Happen Everywhere: While they’re not always the easiest to see in front of you, blessings arrive in the most mysterious ways, and this thought is very prominent in “Miracles From Heaven.” Jennifer Garner’s role as Mrs. Beam and Queen Latifah’s role as the Beam’s friend were truly inspiring. It reminded me it’s a miracle within itself that we get to wake up every morning. Whether it’s the friend who stopped you for just the right amount of time to avoid disaster or the random acts of kindness you may receive, we live in a world where miracles fill our environment, and they commonly go unrecognized.
You Must Have Hope And Faith: No matter who you are, it can be difficult to maintain hope and faith when we’re at our lowest points. My mom had a life-threatening pregnancy with Joy, and throughout her pregnancy, I was half-certain that I wouldn’t have a mom or a baby sister, which is what the doctors had told us. It was a rough time for my family and I, but eventually, I regained faith and today I get to fix my little sister’s hair with my mom’s help. I believe it’s better to take these journeys with faith than to journey with doubt, and that’s one of the powerful messages “Miracles From Heaven” brings to the table.
Your Friends and Family Can Be the Best Medicine: Surrounding yourself with the ones who care for you will always make a dark day brighter. Sometimes a fun outing with your friends and family is more beneficial to one’s physical and emotional health than taking medicine. While watching “Miracles From Heaven,” I admired the powerful unity and positivity the Beam family exhibited, and wish that everyone could experience such a deep bond with loved ones who care about each other so selflessly.
Well, you guys, that wraps things up! “Miracles From Heaven” may be the most family-friendly film of 2016 and certainly one of the most inspiring thus far! You must go see this with your family when it hits theaters March 16th. When my mother and I arrived at the screening, the Sony staff supplied us with tissues. If you plan on seeing this tearjerker with the family, I recommend that you do the same.
Until Next Time!

It’s a miracle that God has allowed me to inspire people through my personal journey through the experience of getting laid off. He divinely inspired me to create a blog titled (yes, He gave me the name) “There is Life After Layoff!” Through that devastating life altering storm, I chose PEACE and emerged polished, primed and poised for purpose while helping others to do the same!
