It is a beautiful story about a young girl named Ivy (Nina Lu) who has a difficult time keeping to her Chinese traditions and has a desire to be more of an American girl like her friend Julie (Hannah Nordberg). There are many heartwarming moments from the film.

1) TRUE FRIENDSHIP
Sometimes it could be hard to make friends. Ivy and Julie are a perfect example of true friendship. Throughout the movie, you can see the wonderful amount of support that they have for each other. Although Ivy fights her Chinese culture Julie tries to learn more about it. Although they both come from different backgrounds they still support one another other and give each other advice and that is true friendship.
2) NEVER BE ASHAMED TO BE WHO YOU ARE
Ivy has difficulty embracing her Chinese Culture. She does not like Chinese food and in school she won’t speak Mandarin or Cantonese. When she talks to her grandparents and learns about the difficulties of starting a new life leaving everything they had behind, she realizes to never be ashamed to be who you are.
3) THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION
Ivy and her mom both struggle with understanding one another. Ivy’s mom wants Ivy to understand that importance of her families traditions. However, Ivy’s doesn’t understand that gymnastics is very important to Ivy.In time they both begin to learn the importance communication in order to understand one another feeling.
SYNOPSIS OF THE MOVIE:
Set in 1976 San Francisco, Ivy Ling (Nina Lu, BUNK D’) is a 10-year-old Chinese-American girl who struggles with finding a balance between her two cultural identities: Chinese and American. With her family’s Chinese traditions and obligations, she wishes to be like her all-American best friend, Julie Albright (Hannah Nordberg, General Hospital). When her gymnastics tournament and family’s big Chinese New Year dinner land on the same day, Ivy relies on Julie to guide her with a difficult choice. The special also stars Gwendoline Yeo (American Crime) and Lance Lim (School of Rock).
The first two original American Girl specials for Prime Video, An American Girl Story Melody 1963: – Love Has to Win and An American Girl Story Maryellen 1955: Extraordinary Christmas, – were based on the characters Melody Ellison and Maryellen Larkin from the BeForever historical-inspired character line. Both specials are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
